Arne Grabner took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Shaun Mahoney, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 20 minutes into the game, Shaun Mahoney cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Arne Grabner was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After some careless play in the USA defense, Jonas Hautot kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Roberto Layton. The USA fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Roberto Layton should have stopped the shot. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Shaun Mahoney in the 30th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Arne Grabner saved Austria from getting behind. The audience was convinced that Shaun Mahoney's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Arne Grabner was relentless in the 38th minute of the game. Jonas Hautot fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Roberto Layton having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Shaun Mahoney in the 45th minute of play forced Austria's goalkeeper Arne Grabner to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 45 minutes into the game, Caroll Baskin was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. USA's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Austria the free kick. A collision led to USA getting a freekick after 45 minutes play. Caroll Baskin hit a great ball. Jonas Hautot came free with the goalkeeper in the 47th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Roberto Layton could save by the left post.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Shaun Mahoney made a kick off. After a rather tough play, USA's Sergio Melton got a free kick in the 50th minute. Arne Grabner made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rex Hathaway in the 55th minute of play. In the 57th minute Jonas Hautot shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Roberto Layton saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Vern Meza got free with Arne Grabner in the 90th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Arne Grabner didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Arin Babayants went, in the 94th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-2 was the resulting score. The USA players were the happier at the end of the match as they had prevented Austria from taking control. The game ends in a draw.
