Qingdao Huanghai Fc's 徐超竞 played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jon Bagley in the 58th minute of play. In the 61st minute, Santos FC's Rashad Sutton seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Rashad Sutton the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Santos FC protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Rashad Sutton had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. The supporters of Qingdao Huanghai Fc booed when Santos FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 62 match minutes in a wonderful position. When Walter Spivey came up free with the goalie in the 92nd minute, the Santos FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Walter Spivey couldn't finish the play. The referee's whistle sounded for the end of the second half. The match was tied at 2-2. None of the players looked happy at the prospect of extra-time.

All the players looked a little tired when it was time for the first half of the overtime. It was Santos FC's Enoch Harrington that got to make the kick off. In the 99th minute, Walter Spivey hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The Qingdao Huanghai Fc supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Qingdao Huanghai Fc would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
