The coaching staff of Santos FC protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Rashad Sutton had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. The supporters of Qingdao Huanghai Fc booed when Santos FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 62 match minutes in a wonderful position. The referee's whistle sounded for the end of the second half. The match was tied at 2-2. None of the players looked happy at the prospect of extra-time.
All the players looked a little tired when it was time for the first half of the overtime. It was Santos FC's Enoch Harrington that got to make the kick off. In the 99th minute, Walter Spivey hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The Qingdao Huanghai Fc supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Qingdao Huanghai Fc would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
