Santos FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Sung McKinley was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. Mike Richardson charged in rather forcefully in the 45th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The wind increased when Armen Gabrielyan made the kick off in the second half. Aaron Smallwood showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sung McKinley, who was totally free with the ball in the 65th minute. Khachatryan's supporters crossed their fingers, but Sung McKinley was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 79th minute Lanny Gilmore shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jermaine Richmond saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Piti Hidalgo made in the 81st minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Sung McKinley however managed to control.
