The throw-in from Wesley da Silva in the 10th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Santos FC's Mike Richardson. Aaron Smallwood made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kristofer Peck in the 12th minute of play. Wesley da Silva made in the 14th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Santos FC's Mike Richardson. Dale Kirkpatrick blasted a shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Aaron Smallwood having to make a save. Aaron Smallwood took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dale Kirkpatrick, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 21st minute the ball was on its way in behind Santos FC's goalkeeper Aaron Smallwood, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. University of Rochester's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Lee White in the 23rd minute. It was a well-played corner which Maxwell Calcagnini managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. In the 34th minute, Sheldon Arredondo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Drew Casey made an important save on a dangerous shot by Sheldon Arredondo in the 36th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kristofer Peck in the 40th minute of play forced Santos FC's goalkeeper Aaron Smallwood to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. University of Rochester were awarded a corner in the 41th minute after Santos FC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Lee White took the corner. Drew Casey showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lanny Gilmore in the 46th minute of the match. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Dale Kirkpatrick to strike the kick off in the second half. 52 minutes into the match, Santos FC's goalkeeper Aaron Smallwood had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Dale Kirkpatrick. University of Rochester's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Lee White in the 54th minute. After having played for 55 minutes, Dale Kirkpatrick managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. University of Rochester's supporters crossed their fingers, but Dale Kirkpatrick was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Dale Kirkpatrick sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, Santos FC's Nolan Payton got a free kick in the 58th minute. 61 minutes into the game, University of Rochester's Dale Kirkpatrick nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Aaron Smallwood made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Aaron Smallwood showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kristofer Peck, who was totally free with the ball in the 66th minute. Santos FC's Arturo Turner was substituted for Sheldon Arredondo. University of Rochester were awarded a corner in the 69th minute after Santos FC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Lee White took the corner. University of Rochester's Tyrell Pitts was substituted for Maxwell Calcagnini. Nolan Payton made in the 71st minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by Lanny Gilmore. Dale Kirkpatrick's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 77thth minute, Aaron Smallwood skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Santos FC's Aaron Smallwood proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 83rd minute of the match, managed to save Santos FC from getting a goal against them. 90 minutes into the game, Wesley da Silva threw the ball into play from the sideline. Santos FC's Tory Weeks quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. After 91 played minutes University of Rochester got a freekick which was hit by George Popescu. After some fancy dribbling in the 95th minute, Dale Kirkpatrick managed to get in a good position for a shot. University of Rochester's supporters rose to their feet, but Dale Kirkpatrick was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Aaron Smallwood breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The University of Rochester players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
