The supporters of U21 Peru booed when U21 Colombia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alexander Mejía didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Betadur Cachero in the 17th minute of play forced U21 Colombia's goalkeeper Santiago Fuentes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Santiago Fuentes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Xuaco Oñaederra, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. U21 Peru's Fede Saron proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 21st minute of the match, managed to save U21 Peru from getting a goal against them. In the 22nd minute Yasser Asprilla shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fede Saron saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 25 minutes into the game, U21 Colombia's Willie Colon nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Fede Saron made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. After 28 played minutes U21 Colombia got a freekick which was hit by Alexander Mejía. Sansone Araña came free with the goalkeeper in the 46th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Fede Saron could save by the left post. U21 Peru's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Sansone Araña 46 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 3-0. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Willie Colon to make the kick off. Santiago Fuentes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Arí Saron in the 54th minute of play. Arí Saron received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 83rd minute. Santiago Fuentes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 86th minute Epifanio Leceta shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fede Saron saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 91st minute, Epifanio Leceta got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.
