Paraguay's attentive Lapurdi Jaramillo managed to snatch the ball when Adrian Feldman made a throw-in in the 14th minute of the game. Platon Balanzuela took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Murat Dogan, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Canada's Percy Ivey played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eate Fonoll in the 20th minute of play. The corner ended in Luis Esteves almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Canada's Percy Ivey did a great save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rodrigo Melgarejo in the 23rd minute of play forced Canada's goalkeeper Percy Ivey to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Platon Balanzuela showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rolland Pringle, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-4.

The Paraguay supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Paraguay would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
