Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Sabin Pânzaru made a fantastic save in the 89th minute, when Albert Gagulin sent off a good shot on target. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 94th minute of the game. One of U21 Russia:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of U21 Romania:s goal. Calistrat Brânzaș shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
