Hondo De Hond charged in rather forcefully in the 8th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Hondo De Hond the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 8 played minutes U21 Belgium got a freekick which was hit by Hondo De Hond. 10 minutes into the game, U21 Belgium's Charlie Vandamme nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Victor Josan made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. When Daniel Isai fell near the penalty area in the 13th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored U21 Moldova's protests and gave Daniel Isai a yellow card for diving instead. After 14 played minutes U21 Moldova got a freekick which was hit by Daniel Isai. After 14 played minutes, U21 Belgium's Diego Simeone shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Victor Josan came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in U21 Belgium reached it. 16 minutes into the game, Marin Lipets was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. U21 Moldova's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave U21 Belgium the free kick. Joélson Van Landschoot fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Victor Josan having to interfere. U21 Belgium's Jan-Joost Flocquier got a good chance for a goal in the 20th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 22 minutes into the match, U21 Moldova's Leonid Prutean sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Ritchie De Smedt narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Leonid Prutean received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 23rd minute. Ritchie De Smedt tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dimitri Verhelst in the 25th minute of play forced U21 Moldova's goalkeeper Victor Josan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 26th minute U21 Belgium were awarded a corner. Diego Simeone went to the cornerflag to take it. In the 30th minute, Charlie Vandamme left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The U21 Belgium fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. Victor Josan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jan-Joost Flocquier in the 33rd minute of the match. In the 37th minute U21 Moldova were awarded a corner. Florin Bumbac went to the cornerflag to take it. After taking down the ball on U21 Moldova's corner Florin Bumbac fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Ritchie De Smedt quite easily take care of the ball. Victor Josan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Charlie Vandamme, who was totally free with the ball in the 42nd minute. After some careless play in the U21 Moldova defense, Charlie Vandamme kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Victor Josan. The U21 Moldova fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Victor Josan should have stopped the shot. When Charlie Vandamme came up free with the goalie in the 47th minute, the U21 Belgium fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Charlie Vandamme couldn't finish the play. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-3.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Gheorghe Blajin was the one to do the kick off. Victor Josan made a fantastic save in the 53rd minute, when Joélson Van Landschoot sent off a good shot on target. 54 minutes into the match, Charlie Vandamme had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Victor Josan. U21 Moldova's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Charlie Vandamme was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-4. 61 minutes into the match, Charlie Vandamme dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Victor Josan, 0-5. If Joélson Van Landschoot had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 64th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The audience was convinced that Charlie Vandamme's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Victor Josan was relentless in the 66th minute of the game. Through an outstanding action, after 73 minutes, Victor Josan successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. 76 minutes into the match, U21 Moldova's goal looked a bit too open when Charlie Vandamme came free, but Victor Josan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. U21 Belgium's Bartjan Vandommele was substituted for Dimitri Verhelst. U21 Moldova made a substitution. Grigore Vacarciuc replaced Gheorghe Blajin. U21 Belgium's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
