In the 11th minute the ball was on its way in behind ForestFire's goalkeeper Dylan Smalls, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The supporters of New England Minas booed when ForestFire was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 17 match minutes in a wonderful position. Van Jennings didn't get a good kick on the ball. Willem-Jan Ceulemans came free with the goalkeeper in the 20th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Dylan Smalls could save by the left post. Through an outstanding action, after 21 minutes, Dylan Smalls successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Willem-Jan Ceulemans received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Dylan Smalls came out and tried to block the shot, but Willem-Jan Ceulemans slotted it home off the left post making it 2-0 in the 22nd minute. Shaun Mahoney could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 26th minute of the match, but Dylan Smalls made a huge save. After 27 minutes of play, New England Minas's Shaun Mahoney made it 3-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Dylan Smalls was left in no man's land by his defense there! With a couple of smart ball manuevers Shaun Mahoney in the 33rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Dylan Smalls saved ForestFire from getting behind. New England Minas's Shaun Mahoney got a good chance for a goal in the 34th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 35 minutes into the match, New England Minas's goal looked a bit too open when Oren Lamb came free, but Roland Parker reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 37th minute the ball was on its way in behind ForestFire's goalkeeper Dylan Smalls, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. But to his dismay, Shaun Mahoney quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-0. After having played for 42 minutes, Shaun Mahoney managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. New England Minas's supporters crossed their fingers, but Shaun Mahoney was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Ken Ivey to strike the kick off in the second half. ForestFire's Dylan Smalls played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Shaun Mahoney in the 69th minute of play.
