In the 14th minute Benny Pike shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Agne Läckberg saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 19th minute, Gergely Pulai ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Roland Parker was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. New England Minas's Roland Parker played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Beppe Di Vito in the 23rd minute of play. With a little luck, Palmeiras's Agne Läckberg got control of the ball when Shaun Mahoney tried to sneak it across the goal line. Agne Läckberg made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Willem-Jan Ceulemans in the 30th minute of play. The supporters of New England Minas booed when Palmeiras was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 34 match minutes in a wonderful position. Garrett Harrell didn't get a good kick on the ball. 38 minutes into the match, Palmeiras's goal looked a bit too open when Benny Pike came free, but Agne Läckberg reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to New England Minas getting a freekick after 44 minutes play. Tomasz Bielejewski hit a great ball. Roland Parker came out of the goal in the 45th minute to try and stop a shot by Palmeiras's Gergely Pulai. But to his dismay, Gergely Pulai quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. Roland Parker made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jacek Luk in the 48th minute of play. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

Benny Pike sent away a hard shot on goal in the 53rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Willem-Jan Ceulemans in the 55th minute of play forced Palmeiras's goalkeeper Agne Läckberg to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Agne Läckberg made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Willem-Jan Ceulemans in the 57th minute of play. Roland Parker showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Beppe Di Vito in the 59th minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Willem-Jan Ceulemans in the 60th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Agne Läckberg saved Palmeiras from getting behind. Palmeiras's Agne Läckberg played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Willem-Jan Ceulemans in the 62nd minute of play. Tomasz Bielejewski hit a great freekick 83 minutes into the match. Roland Parker was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 84th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Garrett Harrell. After 87 minutes of play, New England Minas's Willem-Jan Ceulemans made it 1-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Agne Läckberg was left in no man's land by his defense there! Jacek Luk kicked well hit freekick during the 91st minute of the match. The supporters of New England Minas booed when Palmeiras was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 93 match minutes in a wonderful position. Garrett Harrell didn't get a good kick on the ball. Agne Läckberg took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Shaun Mahoney, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Palmeiras's Agne Läckberg played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Shaun Mahoney in the 96th minute of play. The New England Minas manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing Palmeiras to win.
