The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Marcos Chavez showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Anier Oinatz, who was totally free with the ball in the 8th minute. Anier Oinatz might have been able to make a better finish in the 10th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Marcos Chavez. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Anier Oinatz ran back to his position shaking his head. An unexpectedly hard shot by Anier Oinatz in the 10th minute of play forced U21 Colombia's goalkeeper Marcos Chavez to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. U21 Colombia's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Aitor Cintron in the 14th minute. Jorge Ekain took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Aitor Cintron, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When the match clock showed 23 minutes, the score became 1-1 when Faustino Asprilla sped through U21 Argentina's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Jorge Ekain. In the 27th minute, U21 Argentina's Anier Oinatz ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Marcos Chavez. Marcos Chavez yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-1. If Anier Oinatz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. U21 Colombia's Marcos Chavez proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 29th minute of the match, managed to save U21 Colombia from getting a goal against them. Jorge Ekain made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Josu Valls in the 31st minute of play. After a rather tough play, U21 Argentina's Venancio Etor got a free kick in the 41st minute. The throw-in from Alex Sandóval in the 43rd minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by U21 Argentina's Venancio Etor. U21 Colombia's Marcos Chavez proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 44th minute of the match, managed to save U21 Colombia from getting a goal against them. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Aitor Cintron made a kick off. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Lucas Argenis during the 56th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Lucas Argenis kicked well hit freekick during the 56th minute of the match. When Josu Valls fell near the penalty area in the 58th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored U21 Colombia's protests and gave Josu Valls a yellow card for diving instead. In the 58th minute, Josu Valls hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Marcos Chavez showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Anier Oinatz in the 59th minute of the match. U21 Argentina made a substitution. Nestor Harkaitz replaced Anier Oinatz. U21 Argentina's Oscar Ortiz was substituted for Amado Lider. Nestor Harkaitz might have been able to make a better finish in the 68th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Marcos Chavez. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Nestor Harkaitz ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 68th minute Nestor Harkaitz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marcos Chavez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When U21 Argentina's Nestor Harkaitz in the 75th minute got a chance for a shot 75th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye U21 Colombia's goalie prevented a goal. Marcos Chavez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Oscar Ortiz in the 80th minute of play. 81 minutes into the match, U21 Colombia's goal looked a bit too open when Nestor Harkaitz came free, but Marcos Chavez reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. U21 Argentina's defense didn't have a chance, in the 83rd minute, when Aitor Cintron scored to the left of an out of position Jorge Ekain, making the score, 2-2. In the 87th minute of the game Alex Sandóval made a throw-in which Pedro Villagran played forward. After 89 played minutes U21 Argentina got a freekick which was hit by Venancio Etor. After some fancy dribbling in the 91st minute, Faustino Asprilla managed to get in a good position for a shot. U21 Colombia's supporters rose to their feet, but Faustino Asprilla was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jorge Ekain breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 96 minutes of play, U21 Argentina's Nestor Harkaitz made it 3-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Marcos Chavez was left in no man's land by his defense there! U21 Argentina were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of U21 Colombia for a fine match.
