Mexico's Venancio Dolfo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Augustin Amurăriței in the 13th minute of play. Ionică Cernat took the ball and in the 18 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Venancio Dolfo. Venancio Dolfo dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. Romania's Daniel Mușătescu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Vergaray Azteca in the 21st minute of play. Venancio Dolfo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Augustin Amurăriței in the 26th minute of play. Petrică Cosoreanu hit a great freekick 28 minutes into the match. The supporters of Mexico booed when Romania was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 31 match minutes in a wonderful position. Petrică Cosoreanu didn't get a good kick on the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Bogdan Avram during the 36th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Venancio Dolfo stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Augustin Amurăriței's shot from short distance in the 54th minute. Augustin Amurăriței recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 57th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Mexico's Nicanor Richie was substituted for Carmelo Kinsen. In the 59th minute, Nicanor Richie hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Venancio Dolfo was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Augustin Amurăriței showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-2 in the 65 minute of play. In the 85th minute Nicanor Richie shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Daniel Mușătescu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Romania's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Ionică Cernat in the 99th minute. Silviu Dascălu was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. The Romania supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Romania would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
