Seating: 2493, VIP seats: 216) Santos FC's Tory Burnham started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Santos FC's attentive Titus Penn managed to snatch the ball when Tomasz Bielejewski made a throw-in in the 2nd minute of the game. Tory Burnham received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 10th minute. Roland Parker tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 12th minute, Shaun Mahoney ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Henry Swift was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Tory Burnham could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 17th minute of the match, but Roland Parker made a huge save. Shaun Mahoney recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 22nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 25th minute the ball was on its way in behind Santos FC's goalkeeper Henry Swift, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Santos FC's Reginald Goldsmith managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Luc Duranton in the 28 minute of the game. Roland Parker showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Pat Costello, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. After 31 played minutes Pat Costello rounded New England Minas's defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 1-1. If Tory Burnham had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Santos FC's Henry Swift played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Shaun Mahoney in the 36th minute of play. The supporters of New England Minas booed when Santos FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 38 match minutes in a wonderful position. Reginald Goldsmith didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 39th minute the ball was on its way in behind Santos FC's goalkeeper Henry Swift, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After some fancy dribbling in the 41st minute, Shaun Mahoney managed to get in a good position for a shot. New England Minas's supporters rose to their feet, but Shaun Mahoney was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Henry Swift breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When Shaun Mahoney came up free with the goalie in the 43rd minute, the New England Minas fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Shaun Mahoney couldn't finish the play. Henry Swift showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Shaun Mahoney, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.
53 minutes into the match, Santos FC's goal looked a bit too open when Shaun Mahoney came free, but Henry Swift reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Reginald Goldsmith charged in rather forcefully in the 57th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Reginald Goldsmith the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. With a little luck, Santos FC's Henry Swift got control of the ball when Shaun Mahoney tried to sneak it across the goal line. Shaun Mahoney kicked well hit freekick during the 69th minute of the match. The crowd rose to their feet as New England Minas's Shaun Mahoney slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Henry Swift. That made the score 1-3 after 71 minutes of play. 78 minutes into the match, New England Minas's goal looked a bit too open when Pat Costello came free, but Roland Parker reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Reginald Goldsmith kicked well hit freekick during the 79th minute of the match. 82 minutes into the match, Santos FC's goalkeeper Henry Swift had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Shaun Mahoney. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Shaun Mahoney in the 87th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Henry Swift prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The supporters of New England Minas booed when Santos FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 88 match minutes in a wonderful position. Reginald Goldsmith didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 94th minute, Pat Costello left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Santos FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-3. The New England Minas supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing New England Minas would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
