If Evaristo Coronado had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eriberto Abaurre in the 17th minute of play forced U21 Costa Rica's goalkeeper Darryl Parker to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some careless play in the U21 Bolivia defense, Evaristo Coronado kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Cheche Abaunza. The U21 Bolivia fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Cheche Abaunza should have stopped the shot. In the 25th minute the ball was on its way in behind U21 Bolivia's goalkeeper Cheche Abaunza, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 26th match minute, U21 Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ramon Oreamuno to maneuver through the defense. Rogelio Leiton kicked well hit freekick during the 27th minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 27th minute, Urtsin Abajas managed to get in a good position for a shot. Rolando Fonseca sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 40th minute, Weterio Abendano hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Evaristo Coronado stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Jorge Latini sent away a hard shot on goal in the 52nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 54 minutes, Weterio Abendano mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the U21 Bolivia and the U21 Costa Rica players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 53 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for U21 Bolivia! Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Evaristo Coronado in the 60th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Cheche Abaunza prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Cheche Abaunza showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rolando Fonseca, who was totally free with the ball in the 61st minute. Eriberto Abaurre sent away a hard shot on goal in the 62nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Darryl Parker made a fantastic save in the 65th minute, when Eriberto Abaurre sent off a good shot on target. 68 minutes into the game, U21 Bolivia's Jorge Latini nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Darryl Parker made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-2. In the 71st minute, Roi Abarca hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Darryl Parker was left in no man's land by his defense there! The supporters of U21 Costa Rica booed when U21 Bolivia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 91 match minutes in a wonderful position. Benjamin Abascal didn't get a good kick on the ball. Cheche Abaunza showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rolando Fonseca in the 93rd minute of the match. Darryl Parker was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Jorge Latini showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-4 in the 97 minute of play.
