Nykteus Giouzelis blasted a shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Vasco Abadia having to make a save. Vasco Abadia made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Apsyrtos Georgas in the 20th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Horacio Abaurre in the 24th minute of play forced Cyprus's goalkeeper Thanasis Mousa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
