Bjarmi Snæbjörnsson started the match with the kick off. In the 3rd minute Bjarmi Snæbjörnsson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Manuel Viana saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Portugal's Fábio Moura got a free kick in the 5th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bento Abreu in the 8th minute of play forced Iceland's goalkeeper Sveinungi Guðbjartsson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Portugal's Heitor Manso got a good chance for a goal in the 13th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 16th minute, Bjarmi Snæbjörnsson got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Bjarmi Snæbjörnsson recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 19th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. With a little luck, Iceland's Sveinungi Guðbjartsson got control of the ball when José Freitas tried to sneak it across the goal line. Sveinungi Guðbjartsson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from André Cabral, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Manuel Viana showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bjarmi Snæbjörnsson in the 27th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Portugal's Fábio Moura got a free kick in the 30th minute. In the 31st minute of the match Vilbergur Pálmason shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Manuel Viana showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Heitor Manso got free with Sveinungi Guðbjartsson in the 32nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 33rd minute, Portugal's Heitor Manso ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Sveinungi Guðbjartsson. Sveinungi Guðbjartsson yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. In the 38th minute the ball was on its way in behind Iceland's goalkeeper Sveinungi Guðbjartsson, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. André Cabral scored 2-0 in the 40th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Sveinungi Guðbjartsson, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Manuel Viana came out of the goal in the 44th minute to try and stop a shot by Iceland's Bjarmi Snæbjörnsson. But to his dismay, Bjarmi Snæbjörnsson quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for André Cabral to strike the kick off in the second half. Bjarmi Snæbjörnsson struck a weak shot in the 54th minute. Manuel Viana didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Iceland. Sveinungi Guðbjartsson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bento Abreu in the 60th minute of play. In the 62nd minute of the game Þorvarður Elísson made a throw-in which Bjarmi Snæbjörnsson played forward. Raul Melo made in the 66th minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by Gervasio Vaca. After some careless play in the Iceland defense, Gervasio Vaca kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Sveinungi Guðbjartsson. The Iceland fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Sveinungi Guðbjartsson should have stopped the shot. Gervasio Vaca scored 4-1 in the 73rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Sveinungi Guðbjartsson, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. A collision led to Portugal getting a freekick after 75 minutes play. José Freitas hit a great ball. After 76 minutes of play, Iceland's Bjarmi Snæbjörnsson made it 4-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Manuel Viana was left in no man's land by his defense there! 81 minutes into the match, Iceland's Bjarmi Snæbjörnsson sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Manuel Viana narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Bjarmi Snæbjörnsson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 83rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. With a little luck, Portugal's Manuel Viana got control of the ball when Júlí Jökulsson tried to sneak it across the goal line. 87 minutes into the game, Vilbergur Pálmason threw the ball into play from the sideline. Portugal's Heitor Manso quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Gervasio Vaca succeeded in the game's 89th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 5-2. Sveinungi Guðbjartsson didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Domingos Castro went, in the 96th minute, to the upper right corner, 6-2 was the resulting score. Portugal's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
