The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. If Edmondo Capobianco had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 4th minute. Çetin Oğuralp showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gaston Tauro, who was totally free with the ball in the 9th minute. The corner led to Górnik Zabrze's Gaston Tauro getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. Wit Czerner made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rickard Lundqvist in the 33rd minute of play. Rickard Lundqvist could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 36th minute of the match, but Wit Czerner made a huge save. After having played for 37 minutes, Miromir Zerde managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Górnik Zabrze's supporters crossed their fingers, but Miromir Zerde was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 43rd minute Gaston Tauro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Çetin Oğuralp saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Edmondo Capobianco had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

In the 95th match minute, Górnik Zabrze was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lech Raszkiewicz to maneuver through the defense. 97 minutes into the game, Ilya Kondrashov recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Çetin Oğuralp. Ilya Kondrashov showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 0-2.
