An unexpectedly hard shot by Narcis Giurăscu in the 15th minute of play forced U21 Hungary's goalkeeper Zénó Bakos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. LucaLucan Lucas's late challenge caught a U21 Romania's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. LucaLucan Lucas helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to U21 Hungary getting a freekick after 22 minutes play. LucaLucan Lucas hit a great ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ciprian Prodan got free with Zénó Bakos in the 27th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 29th minute, U21 Romania's Ciprian Prodan ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Zénó Bakos. Zénó Bakos yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ciprian Prodan in the 31st minute of play forced U21 Hungary's goalkeeper Zénó Bakos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 32nd minute Lajos Jakó shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ciprian Bucuță saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Sebestyén Sárkány hit a great ball. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

U21 Hungary's Zénó Bakos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristinel Alexandru in the 51st minute of play. In the 52nd match minute, U21 Hungary was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ágoston Bányay to maneuver through the defense. Ciprian Bucuță showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from András Újváry in the 55th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in U21 Romania's zone, Vilmos Boross stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ciprian Bucuță came out of the goal and Vilmos Boross tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. U21 Romania made a substitution. Sabin Grindeanu replaced Cristinel Alexandru. Ciprian Bucuță made a fantastic save in the 60th minute, when Ágoston Bányay sent off a good shot on target. In the 64th minute Calistrat Cămătaru shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Zénó Bakos saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Zénó Bakos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Prodan, who was totally free with the ball in the 66th minute. 69 minutes into the match, U21 Romania's goalkeeper Ciprian Bucuță had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by András Újváry. Ciprian Bucuță made an important save on a dangerous shot by LucaLucan Lucas in the 71st minute. When Jaap Stamm fell near the penalty area in the 74th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored U21 Romania's protests and gave Jaap Stamm a yellow card for diving instead. U21 Romania's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Gergely Varga ran over to the corner to take the kick. 79 minutes into the game, Aron Cucerzan was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. U21 Romania's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave U21 Hungary the free kick.
