Patrick Zingre lost his temper 20 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. Gábor Király breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Paul Dörflinger in the 41st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Stephan Helmholz prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 43 minutes into the match, U21 Switzerland's goalkeeper Stephan Helmholz had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Paul Dörflinger. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Gerd Müller was the one to do the kick off. U21 Switzerland's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
