Seating: 2369, VIP seats: 206) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Jules Megnet got the match started through his kick off. U21 Switzerland's Stephan Helmholz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Matthias Kowalewski in the 4th minute of play. In the 6th minute, André Gauger left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The U21 Germany fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. Gábor Király showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jules Megnet in the 11th minute of the match. If Jules Megnet had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 12th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. André Gauger who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 14thth minute tested the skills of Stephan Helmholz when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Stephan Helmholz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gerd Müller, who was totally free with the ball in the 15th minute. Gábor Király took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jules Megnet, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Patrick Zingre lost his temper 20 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. It was a brilliant solo performance by U21 Germany's Gerd Müller when he shot the ball into the net to 2-0 in the 23rd minute. Stephan Helmholz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gerd Müller, who was totally free with the ball in the 26th minute. 28 minutes into the match, U21 Switzerland's goal looked a bit too open when Gerd Müller came free, but Stephan Helmholz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The corner led U21 Germany's Ralf Geißler to fire away a dangerous shot which Stephan Helmholz despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 40th minute, Jules Megnet managed to get in a good position for a shot. U21 Switzerland's supporters rose to their feet, but Jules Megnet was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Gábor Király breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Paul Dörflinger in the 41st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Stephan Helmholz prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 43 minutes into the match, U21 Switzerland's goalkeeper Stephan Helmholz had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Paul Dörflinger. After 44 minutes U21 Switzerland's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Ralf Geißler who took care of the corner kick. A nice corner shot did that Ralf Geißler got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Stephan Helmholz quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Gerd Müller was the one to do the kick off. Stephan Helmholz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gerd Müller in the 53rd minute of play. Jules Megnet sent away a hard shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Beniamino Meyer during the 56th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 91 played minutes, U21 Germany's Ferenc Kugler shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Stephan Helmholz came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in U21 Germany reached it. When U21 Switzerland's Adrien Amrein in the 93rd minute got a chance for a shot 93rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. U21 Switzerland's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
