Spectators: 13605 (Terracing: 10000,
Seating: 3317, VIP seats: 288) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Recep Vatansever started the match with the kick off. Tom Plumber took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Eby Adeche, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hussein Shuaibu in the 7th minute of play forced Luxembourg's goalkeeper Tom Plumber to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 11 minutes into the match, Nigeria's goal looked a bit too open when Sid Palmer came free, but Umaru Ogodo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Tom Plumber took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Eby Adeche, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Rod Claydon's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Umaru Ogodo firmly grabbed it by the left post. Tom Plumber made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hussein Shuaibu in the 19th minute of play. Francis Sheene hit a great freekick 26 minutes into the match. Tom Plumber made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Eby Adeche in the 27th minute of play. In the 31st minute Luxembourg were awarded a corner. Denis Featherstone went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner led Luxembourg's Junior Millman to a score. 1-0 in the 31st minute. Azikiwe Uzor kicked well hit freekick during the 35th minute of the match. A nice corner shot did that Junior Millman got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Umaru Ogodo quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Hussein Shuaibu scored 1-1 in the 40th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Tom Plumber, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After a rather tough play, Luxembourg's Larry Easton got a free kick in the 43rd minute. After having played for 44 minutes, Eby Adeche managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Nigeria's supporters crossed their fingers, but Eby Adeche was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 45th minute, Sid Palmer left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Luxembourg fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-1. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-1 at half-time.
Luxembourg's Tom Plumber proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 51st minute of the match, managed to save Luxembourg from getting a goal against them. Nigeria's attentive Kwemto Udoka managed to snatch the ball when Larry Easton made a throw-in in the 53rd minute of the game. In the 56th minute Recep Vatansever shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Umaru Ogodo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 57th minute of the game, Francis Sheene landed unfortunately after trying to head the ball, and pulled a muscle in the back, so badly that he had to leave the field. 61 minutes in the game Larry Easton did a throw-in, and the ball was quickly in game thanks to Gerry Frantz. Nigeria's Umaru Ogodo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Recep Vatansever in the 64th minute of play. 65 minutes into the match, Junior Millman notched a goal, 3-1, to the right of Nigeria's Umaru Ogodo. Umaru Ogodo was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Luxembourg's Tom Plumber played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eby Adeche in the 72nd minute of play. In the 74th minute, Gerry Frantz ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Umaru Ogodo was frozen by the shot and now it was 4-1. Umaru Ogodo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sid Palmer in the 76th minute of play. Tom Plumber showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eby Adeche, who was totally free with the ball in the 84th minute. Nigeria were awarded a corner in the 85th minute after Luxembourg's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Mohammadu Adedoyin took the corner. In the 87th minute, Sid Palmer got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 93rd minute, Sid Palmer made a precise shot to the right of Umaru Ogodo. Nigeria's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 5-1.
