Match Report
National stadium
Spectators: 10300 (Terracing: 7725,
Seating: 2369, VIP seats: 206) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Bastiaro Atencio kicked off to start the match. Colombia's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Juan José Carreño in the 14th minute. Colombia's Edison Tolosa was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Mario Jesus Paul in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. After 18 played minutes Colombia got a freekick which was hit by Lopez Imendia. After having played for 29 minutes, Mingo Jimilio managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Colombia's supporters crossed their fingers, but Mingo Jimilio was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 31 played minutes Chile got a freekick which was hit by Ulises Dueñas. In the 32nd minute of the match Juan José Carreño shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Mario Jesus Paul showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Juan José Carreño's shot from long distance was a real pearl which went to the right and just passed Mario Jesus Paul - 2-0 was put on the score board in the 32nd minute. Colombia's Bastiaro Atencio was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 37th play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. In the 45th match minute, Chile was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Don Luis to maneuver through the defense.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Don Luis made a kick off. Lopez Imendia made in the 52nd minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by Radamel-Falcao Garcia. In the 60th minute Juan José Carreño shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mario Jesus Paul saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 62nd minute of the match Colombia got a corner. Chile's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Juan José Carreño ran over to the corner to take the kick. Colombia's Juan José Carreño was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Mario Jesus Paul in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. An unexpectedly hard shot by Juan José Carreño in the 66th minute of play forced Chile's goalkeeper Mario Jesus Paul to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 71 minutes into the match, Don Luis had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Nestor Amezua. Colombia's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Don Luis was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-1. Bastiaro Atencio succeeded in the game's 75th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 4-1. The audience was convinced that Juan José Carreño's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Mario Jesus Paul was relentless in the 81st minute of the game. In the 87th minute, Oro Godos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 87 minutes into the match, Rolando Zelaya notched a goal, 6-2, to the right of Colombia's Nestor Amezua. Nestor Amezua was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Amato Rober lost his temper 94 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. For all the effort they put into the match, the Chile players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Colombia.
