Zulkifli Tobing made the kick off and thus started the match. U21 Ireland's Philip Walker played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Zulkifli Tobing in the 7th minute of play. In the 11th minute, U21 Indonesia's Benny Pangkali seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Benny Pangkali the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of U21 Indonesia protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Benny Pangkali had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. After having played for 13 minutes, Barram McIan managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. U21 Ireland's supporters crossed their fingers, but Barram McIan was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Artuir Quinnless sent away a hard shot on goal in the 14th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Wahyu Hutauruk took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Artuir Quinnless, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 19th minute the ball was on its way in behind U21 Ireland's goalkeeper Philip Walker, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Batt Caffrey hit a great freekick 28 minutes into the match. 29 minutes into the match, U21 Ireland's goal looked a bit too open when Zulkifli Tobing came free, but Philip Walker reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 30 minutes into the match, U21 Ireland's goal looked a bit too open when Marcello Lippi came free, but Philip Walker reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Batt Caffrey had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.

U21 Ireland made a substitution. Liam Sheridan replaced Artuir Quinnless. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Geoffrey Delaney to make the kick off. 52 minutes into the game, Piara Kuda was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. U21 Indonesia's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave U21 Ireland the free kick. The supporters of U21 Ireland booed when U21 Indonesia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 53 match minutes in a wonderful position. Piara Kuda didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 65th minute the ball was on its way in behind U21 Indonesia's goalkeeper Wahyu Hutauruk, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. U21 Indonesia's Ardhika Waluyo was substituted for Piara Kuda. Aban Perth hit a great freekick 68 minutes into the match. 69 minutes into the match, U21 Indonesia's Kunto Mahendra sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Philip Walker narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in U21 Indonesia's zone, Aban Perth stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Wahyu Hutauruk came out of the goal and Aban Perth tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. U21 Ireland's Rorey Tracy was substituted for Aban Perth. Ibing Manuputty charged in rather forcefully in the 76th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ibing Manuputty the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 76th minute, Ibing Manuputty hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.
