After taking down the ball on U21 United States's corner Andre Owen fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Lázaro Poncio quite easily take care of the ball. In the 5th match minute, U21 Mexico was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rene Remigio to maneuver through the defense. Garret Bonner took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Silvestre Behe, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Garret Bonner showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Silvestre Behe, who was totally free with the ball in the 8th minute. U21 United States's Garret Bonner played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Silvestre Behe in the 11th minute of play. After a rather tough play, U21 Mexico's Silvio Elivareo got a free kick in the 11th minute. In the 20th minute, Wade DeJesus got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 25th minute of the match U21 United States got a corner. U21 Mexico's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Andre Owen ran over to the corner to take the kick. Lázaro Poncio took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Stefan Giles, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 33rdth minute of the game J.C. Faulk who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but U21 Mexico's Lázaro Poncio was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. U21 Mexico's Lázaro Poncio played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Stefan Giles in the 36th minute of play. Andre Owen made a great header on U21 United States's corner, it was just that U21 Mexico's Lázaro Poncio managed to reach the ball for a save. After a defensive mix-up in U21 Mexico's zone, J.C. Faulk stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Lázaro Poncio came out of the goal and J.C. Faulk tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. J.C. Faulk blasted a shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Lázaro Poncio having to make a save.

Rene Remigio was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 54 minutes into the match. In the 61st match minute, U21 Mexico was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Silvio Elivareo to maneuver through the defense. With a couple of smart ball manuevers J.C. Faulk in the 65th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Lázaro Poncio saved U21 Mexico from getting behind. 67 minutes into the game, Matias Dunixi was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. U21 Mexico's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave U21 United States the free kick. In the 67th minute, Matias Dunixi hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 73 minutes into the match, U21 Mexico's goal looked a bit too open when J.C. Faulk came free, but Lázaro Poncio reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Aldo Lizbeth sent away a hard shot on goal in the 76th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Lázaro Poncio showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from J.C. Faulk in the 79th minute of the match. After 80 minutes U21 Mexico's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Andre Owen who took care of the corner kick. The corner led to U21 United States's Lucas Zepeda getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. 86 minutes into the match, U21 Mexico's goalkeeper Lázaro Poncio had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by J.C. Faulk. After a rather tough play, U21 United States's Lucas Zepeda got a free kick in the 93rd minute. If Lucas Zepeda had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Lázaro Poncio was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but J.C. Faulk showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 0-2 in the 98 minute of play. When the match was over U21 United States could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than U21 Mexico throughout the match.
