Seating: 2369, VIP seats: 206) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Leonel Orlandus took the kick off in the first half of the match. Leonel Orlandus sent away a hard shot on goal in the 10th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 15 minutes into the match, Italy's Gheorghe Hagi sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Tadeo Guerrero narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Angelo Peruzzi made an important save on a dangerous shot by Leonel Orlandus in the 18th minute. Through an outstanding action, after 21 minutes, Angelo Peruzzi successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Angelo Peruzzi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Walter Bonacker in the 22nd minute of play. In the 22nd minute, Walter Bonacker ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Angelo Peruzzi was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. Through an outstanding action, after 28 minutes, Angelo Peruzzi successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. In the 30th minute Gheorghe Hagi shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tadeo Guerrero saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 31 minutes into the match, Gheorghe Hagi notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Argentina's Tadeo Guerrero. Tadeo Guerrero was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Angelo Peruzzi made a fantastic save in the 35th minute, when Hipolito Calixto sent off a good shot on target. In the 37th match minute, Italy was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Biagio Lopez to maneuver through the defense. Tadeo Guerrero made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gheorghe Hagi in the 40th minute of play. The crowd rose to their feet as Walter Bonacker kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Angelo Peruzzi. That made the score 2-1 in the 41 minute of play. 46 minutes into the match, Gheorghe Hagi had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Tadeo Guerrero. Argentina's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Gheorghe Hagi was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-2. The first half was very even, with the score at 2-2 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Gheorghe Hagi made a kick off. In the 52nd minute Walter Bonacker shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Angelo Peruzzi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Argentina were awarded a corner in the 53th minute after Italy's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Camilo Porfirio took the corner. In the 94th minute, Martin Ederono made a precise shot to the right of Angelo Peruzzi. Italy's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 5-3. Argentina's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
