His beginnings
The boom unleashed by the football between British and Spanish colonies was expanding rapidly in the society of the capital, in short, private schools in Mexico City adopted the sport of football fashion.

By 1916, football was avidly practiced by young students from Jesuit colleges and Marist. Masks At the College a group of boys who did not exceed thirteen, led by Rafael Garza Gutiérrez "Record" Nuñez Cortina Germain and Ignacio "Nacho" de la Garza, decided to create a team with the best players in the school.

Very near the school lived Dona Calixta Cortina, widow Dominguez "Aunt Calita" whom his nephew Germanus ordered his house to hold the first meeting. Alzate there in 136, Santa Maria la Ribera neighborhood, the team was born.

The Marist College's Perpetua had formed a team called Columbus. Often not enough to raise the statutory 11 players. His coach, Eugenio Cenoz, proposed to join another team to be more competitive.

The team of Masks had enough quality players but lacked uniforms and had only one training ball. The La Perpetua, however, had promised several meters of cashmere fabric for making uniforms, besides English had two balls of excellent quality.

They decided to meet on October 12, 1916 to finalize the merger. The boys gathered on the plains of La Condesa to discuss the possible name of the team. The proposals were many but eventually won unanimously Peter "Cheto" Quintanilla, who suggested the name AMERICA, because that day was celebrated the discovery of the continent.

The American played a tournament and won second force in both categories, so in 1917 decided to seek admission to the Major League. The foreign teams that were looked down on, as young and inexperienced, but not least, Mexico. However, they accepted test realizarles three games. The requirement was to not lose any of them. They won the first two and managed to draw against the most prestigious table at the time: Spain.

The nascent form team proposed a directive that took the steps needed to be accepted into the Major League. As president Florencio Dominguez was in charge Cortina, whose first task was to create two categories in the new club: the greatest, where they would play all those aged 15 years and that would be the one going to find a place in the District League Federal and lower, which would involve children under 15 years and which would be headed by Rafael Garza Gutiérrez, who had only 13 years old.

Time Amateur
Club America squad that won the first Amateur Championship cycle 1924/25.Durante League 1923/24, won the Copa America by beating the Colossus Vizcaya Mexican football at that time, the Club Spain, a team that already met several honors under his belt. In just 1924/25, the team won what would be their first league title. It was the first in a string of four at that time the team reached the first two under the command of Rafael Garza Gutiérrez "Record". Of the 12 matches in the championship 1924-25, America won 10 and tied two, being undefeated, scored 22 goals and received only four. As a curiosity, Americanists secured his coronation with a win against Aurrerá incomparescencia.

The first football team faced Mexico in a series of friendly matches to its similar of Guatemala in 1923, was made mostly with American players. On the first trip of the national team, a team player gives birth to America "Chiquitibum" club then encouraged players and still continues to do so. Its creator, Carlos Garcés, took by reference the sound that made the engine of the train he was traveling with the team.

Rafael Garza Gutiérrez, captained the national team for over time, become head coach of Club America and the Mexican National Team.

On May 9, 1926, Park Spain, Asturias defeated America 1-0, with goals scored by Juan Terrazas and thus captured a second time supremacy. Moreover, again got undefeated. Internationally, the cream jacket team traveled to Cuba to hold some parties on the island.

Third championship came the afternoon of June 5, 1927, when the team was already guided by Percy Clifford, one of the best coaches in amateur football. Benito Contreras, who had previously fought in the ranks of Deportivo Toluca, was the author of two goals that America bowed to Aurrerá 2-1 to be crowned.

In this way, the team kept the Challenger Cup, an award that was agreed would be awarded to the first squad in those days chained three championships.

To make matters worse, in 1927, America faced twice no less than one of the giants of world football, Real Madrid. Both duels thrown favorable outcome to the "meringues" Hispanic, 4-2, on Sept. 4 and 5-3, 14 days later.

For 1927/28, America reported as new to Peter Suinaga, Charles Neumayer, Carral Carlos and Manuel Romero Vargas. The azulcrema aspired to equal the feat in the previous decade had set the Reforma Athletic Club and the Club Spain, obtaining four titles in a row.

And so, America got the goal on 11 November 1928 by defeating 3-1 Aurrera. Carlos Garces, the father of the famous club "Chiquitibum" Roberto Gayon and Alberto "Chaparro" Munoz were the authors of the goals on that memorable day Americanists who rounded off a season of 11 wins, two draws and just one defeat, propinada this by Necaxa. As far as scoring is concerned, America scored 41 for and received 19. We should remember that in that year, 1928, Mexico went to the Olympics in Amsterdam with various elements of Americanism extraction.

The bright streak was interrupted by Americanist Mars General Aguirre, which involved several players from Guadalajara. Either way, America was at the third position in the overall standings at the end of the championship 1928-29. As a consolation it was the triumph in the Cup Covadonga. To the 20, also closed the first golden age of azulcrema, home to some players Veracruz, like Alfredo "Old" Sanchez, a fine from the Orizaba midfielder who joined the team in 1929.

Hard Times
The transition from the 20 to 30 also for the America represented a period of transformation. Gradually retired players came first major generation and new values. Was how they saw emerging in the 1929-30 tournament goalkeeper Rafael Navarro "Navarrito", speaking with the Mexican national team in qualifying for the World Cup in Italy 34.

In the event 1929/30, it seemed that America would come roaring back, but only enough to be runner-up, just one point below the Albinegros of Spain.

During the 30, the dominance of Spain spread. In the space from 1930 to 1940, the Club added four titles to his already extensive gallery of awards. Shared roles in the national football scene with Atlante, the famous "team of people," who claimed the crown for the first time in the league 1931/32, and the legendary Necaxa of 11 children, a picture that won four titles .

But 30 were not good for the American stage, as was practically empty-handed, except for the Cup won in 1938, just as on campus included one of the most important figures of Mexican soccer, Luis "Pirata" Fuente .

Despite the drought, there were some personalities that are remembered to this day as the distinguished Americanists ever. There is, for example, the goalkeeper Rafael Mollinedo, who said football was an autodidact, because the court learned the tricks of the trade, characterized by their courage.

Back in 1937, wore the shirt Octavio Club Road, another immortal Mexican courts. He distinguished himself by his exceptional intuition and plasticity in scoring headers. Through this decade, America held a lot of international games. He stressed that victory over Athletic Bilbao, this July 28, 1935, 2-1.

One of the most resounding victories was against FC Barcelona, beating him 2-0, 20 June 1937. And memory does not escape the tie with two goals against distinct Basque selection, which occurred on 7 November that year.

By 1938, America would get its last title in the amateur era and this was the Cup Tournament

Top of the professional era
Team America is among the founding teams of the first division of Mexico in 1943. His debut was with a 6-1 victory against Athletic Association team Orizabeña (ADO) on October 16, 1943.

This season was not particularly good but did the "Classic" against Guadalajara on January 16, 1944 in which they lost 1-3, the America would retaliate in the second round with a convincing 7-2 in a particularly violent game.

During the decade of the 40's and part of 50, spent the worst years of its history, occupying some of the latest positions of the table. It is during this time that the team established the negative marks in its history, as the 101 goals conceded in the season 1945-46, the streak of 15 straight games without a win, including 6 straight losses in 1946-47 and the worst rout of the history: 2-9 against Atlas on November 3, 1946 in Park Oblates. The club was second last in the table in tournaments 1946-47, 51-52 and 52-53 being saved for the decline in the last two occasions by a slight difference.

Upon reaching 50, the rivalry between America and Guadalajara becomes even more passionate. In the years 1954 and 1955 azulcrema Cup took over Mexico in the finals by beating the team from Guadalajara. The first very emotional, because it required the extra time and penalties to yield a winner. The figure of Americanists was the Argentine Fizel Emilio, who scored three goals to Guadalajara goalkeeper Jaime famous "Tube" Gomez.

In the second set to beat Americanist Guadalajara 1-0 and then win the champions league, Zacatepec, 3-2 to be crowned first Champion of Champions.

Change of ownership
"We buy American because our goal is to get the venue for the 1970 Mexico World Cup. If we are not in football we can not do. I do not know anything about football, but I'm told that the best director is Guillermo Canedo, the best coach Ignacio Trelles is the best players are from Argentina and Brazil. On that basis I will build the American future. "
-Emilio Azcarraga Vidaurreta, 1959, the day he announced that he had bought Telesistema Mexican Club America

In 1959, the American Football Club is acquired by Emilio Azcarraga Milmo, the son of Emilio Azcarraga Vidaurreta Telesistema Own Mexican company Televisa is today. Among his first decisions as club owner was to hire Guillermo Canedo de la Barcena as club president, who came in Zacatepec Club which had a successful performance. The early years with his new owner were to study and planting. It is the time that belongs properly to the 60's. Among the team nicknames were "The Canaries" for the colors of his uniform, and "millionaires" by their owners.

Now for the 1961-62 campaign, Emilio Azcarraga decided that Guillermo Canedo, who had been serving as president of the sugarcane growers of Zacatepec and FMF, took over the office of America.

Among the first significant hiring of Guillermo Canedo are the Brazilians Francisco Moacyr, Ney Blanco de Oliveira, Jose Nunez and Urabato Alves "Zague". Also appointed Ignacio Trelles and Mario Perez left as an assistant.

As a result of the good deeds of the policy Cañedo Americanist achievement came quickly. So, the night of April 21, 1964 at Estadio Universitario de San Nicolas de los Garza, Nuevo Leon, and led the team that beat Alejandro Scopelli 6-5 Gang of Monterrey in Mexico Cup final. During that evening, Alfonso Portugal played a memorable performance by scoring 5 of the goals azulcremas, Jose "Pepin" Gonzalez got the other score. By 1965, America reaffirmed its leadership in the Cup by beating the Canaries 4-0 of Morelia, the evening of March 7 on the stadium field of University City. The notes were the work of Javier "Chalo" Fragoso and Vava, each with a pair.

America was recovering its brilliance, as the league 1965/66 also in their possession. On December 19, 1965, the group led by Pepe Moncebáez Scopelli and won 2-0 at Veracruz on the grass of the Colossus of the Pedregal with goals from Jorge "Coco" Gomez and "Chalo" Fragoso to ensure supremacy. After the campaign, the cream had been added 42 units, with 18 wins and six draws, 6 losses and suffering allowed 29 goals. The Brazilian "Zague" contributed 20 entries to the harvest of 55 so many that made the American top scorers table among 16 clubs who then brought together the full circuit. The sum of Jose Alves allowed romperredes consecrated as leader.

While the millionaires next year, as was known at that time the team, gave the title to Toluca, undoubtedly the most significant event for the club was the opening of the majestic Estadio Azteca in southern Mexico City on the afternoon of May 29, 1966, when the imposing Coliseum opened its doors to celebrate the meeting between America and the Italian side Torino FC. The result of the confrontation was tied at two goals. He touched the honor of scoring the first goal in the Azteca Brazilian Arlindo dos Santos "Memin".

The 70
In the 70 starts to envision the big team and winning projection profile champion. Opened the decade winning the first championship achieved under the attractive new mechanism for defining the winning team: The playoffs, winning 2-0 on aggregate to Toluca in 1970/71 season, with goals from Carlos Reinoso and Horacio López Salgado, this under the technical direction of José Antonio Roca. Also in that same tournament Enrique Borja scored 20 goals and scored the first of three scoring titles that linked with the shirt Americanist. This equipment is characterized by its high speed and coupling have a great squad: Goalkeepers: Beloved "Tarzan" Palacios, Prudencio "Pajarito" Cortez. Defenders: Rene "Popeye" Trujillo, Antonio Zamora, Luis Miguel Barberena, Mario "Pichojos" Perez. Media: Robert "Black" Hodge, Carlos Reinoso, Antonio Martins "Toninho" Forwards: Robert "Monkey" Rodriguez, Enrique Borja, Juan Manuel Borbolla, Horacio López Salgado and Sergio Cevallos.

For the 1971-1972 season the Latin plays a great season and reach the final is decided in a single match at the Azteca powerful against Cruz Azul. Several defensive lapses are prevalent in America that falls 1-4 with a great performance Cruz Azul goalkeeper Miguel "Superman" Marin.

On the eve of the winter of 1973, America, led by José Antonio Roca, Mexico captured the Cup in accounting for Cruz Azul 2-1 in the Estadio Azteca. The Chilean Osvaldo Castro "Pata Blessed" and Robert Hodge "The Black", forged goals Coapa box.

In season 1975/76 America achieves one of the great exploits in the First Division. It is crowned champions without conceding goal in the league threading over 650 minutes without conceding a goal, including the last game of the regular season. In the end, the creams were imposed by aggregate score of 4-0 to the University of Guadalajara. To make matters worse, America defeated 2-0 in the Tigres UANL in the match for the Champion of Champions.

On January 18, 1978, America defeated King of Suriname 1-0, Robin Hood, which reached the honors as the champion of CONCACAF.

The Boca Juniors was the rival of America to determine the champion of the Copa Interamericana. After losing the first game in Buenos Aires 3-0, the Coapa won the second 1-0, leaving everything to a third party that defined Carlos Reinoso with a free kick in the throes of the game. In that decade, they managed to capture the attention of large numbers of followers mainly thanks to its great figures midfielder and striker Carlos Reinoso Enrique Borja. In the 70's America won two league championships (1970-71 and 1975-76), one of Mexico Cup in 1974, one of Champion of Champions in 1976 and the Champions Cup CONCACAF in 1978 and the first Cup American in 1978.

The 80's: The Golden Decade
The decade of the 80 represents for America, a time of change and momentous achievements. He won five league titles (83-84, 84-85, PRODE 85, 87-88 and 88-89), two Champion of Champions (87-88 and 88-89) and one of CONCACAF in 1987.

The 80's began with a series of momentous change for the club America. In 1981 came the first great shock, when Guillermo Canedo leaves the presidency of the Club. He entered the Emilio Diez Barroso relay and with it came great changes, seeking to consolidate to America as one of the best teams in Mexican soccer.

On 20 September 1981 defining the concept "American Eagles", the team changed its image and acquired the nickname "Eagles" (which sounded better than "Canary"), thanks to a fierce campaign that lasted two decades, based on the diffusion of the media (Television), it got the nickname "Eagles" has been recorded in Mexican football folklore. This media campaign is also responsible for the polarization that causes the team among fans of other teams, then because the team is owned by the owners of the company Televisa, fans perceived that the American team had an unfair advantage in terms Broadcast and media visibility. The eagle had been used previously in team crest, for a short period in the year 1938.

A very important fact is that the August 5, 1983, is published officially the anthem of America, created by Charles White.

The first achievement of this policy is the scoring championship Norberto Outes in 1982/83 season with 22 goals that season in the American historical record of point sets (61) wins (26), victories at home (17) and highest percentage of efficiency (80%), but was surprisingly eliminated by archrival Club Deportivo Guadalajara 3-0 in the Estadio Azteca during the semifinals, despite winning the first leg at the Estadio Jalisco 2-1.

The most important achievement of this decade is in the 1983-84 season when crown champions by defeating arch-rival, Club Deportivo Guadalajara, by 3 goals to 1 in one of the most exciting final of Mexican football. After a tie at two in the final round in Jalisco, took in return the error in the payment of a penalty by Eduardo Cisneros, to influence the mood of Chivas and imposed upon him by the end score of 3 -1 with goals from Bacas, Tena and Aguirre.

For the 1984-85 competition, it became necessary to hold three meetings-final between UNAM and the Eagles. The first one showed a tie at Azteca. Four days later, at CU, the game ended goalless. Equality in the global contest took a third and final at the Stade de Queretaro Corregidor, on Tuesday night May 28, 1985.

Two entries in the "Russian" Brailovsky put the American on the road to victory. The victory fell to the azulcrema 3-1, the Eagles another target of the said Carlos Hermosillo, while the "Tuca" Ferreti honrilla settled that of the university.

The third championship was consummated in October of that year when the Eagles faced the Tampico Madero in the final of Prode 85, one of two short tournaments before the Mexico World 86. After a round battle in which the side Tamaulipas was a comfortable 4-1 lead, the team made the feat in the game and beat them 4-0 back in one of the greatest comebacks in the history of America and Mexican soccer.

It was the summer of 1987 when America became a second time in its becoming the top of CONCACAF in accounting Costa Rican club Saprissa's 2-1.

In the second season after the World Cup, America resurfaced and kept beating League 4-2 on aggregate in the final against Pumas UNAM.

In addition to this bay, we must credit the American victory over Puebla 2-0 for the Champion of Champions.

They turned to see the faces two teams then shared stadium and grew a young rivalry, America and Cruz Azul to define the winner of the war 1988-89. Thanks to a 3-2 lead in the final battle round, the Eagles prevailed in the round, despite finishing tied at the two.

Like last year, all ran Coapa Champion of Champions after defeating Toluca, owner of the Cup That happened on July 20, 1989, day when the Eagles beat the Devils 2-1 Seixas and goals from Hermosillo. In Toluca, Roberto Masciarelli scored the discount.

The 90
The American fell into a gray time since 1988-89 that lasted until the 2001 winter tournament where they won one league title, the closest we were to get a title was the final against the Pumas in the 1990-91 season.

However, at the time the Eagles won two titles in the Champions Cup CONCACAF: in 1991, defeating Cuba's Pinar del Rio, and 1993, winning the final against the Liga Deportiva Alajuelense of Costa Rica, one goal Hugo Sanchez, the night of January 5, 1993, in Santa Ana, California, allowed the American to get the CONCACAF championship.

Also in 1991 won the American Cup, playing against Olimpia of Paraguay with a 2-1 win in the Azteca Stadium on October 12, dated the 75th anniversary of the club.

On June 14, 1994 came to the technical direction of the Dutchman Leo Beenhakker America, who gave the team an offensive appearance, with a show and effectiveness. Under his leadership the Eagles became a real goal machine of good football and historical markers Roadrunners 8-1 in the UAT at the Azteca, 8-2 to TM Gallos Blancos on Corregidor, and 7-3 to Morelia at Azteca and then 6-1 in Morelos. Before the day was 33 Latin competition overall leader. Was qualified to the playoffs. He had 18 wins, 9 draws and only 4 defeats, 78 goals scored with 2.5 goals per game average, but was sacked Leo Benhakker April 6, 1995 unknown causes.

On Tuesday March 16, 2010, in a telephone interview for the television program 'The guests of Cuau', which leads Cuauhtemoc Blanco on Fox Sports, Leo Beenhakker said that the then president of America, Diez Barroso, ordered the Dutch did not align Joaquin del Olmo for alleged economic conflicts between the President and the player. Beenhakker and refusing to play him, he was contacted by Rubolotta, then vice president of America "to make bags."

During that time, ceased to 16 coaches, 5 presidents in four years and a multitude of failures in tow. Most notable of these 13 years: Leo Beenhakker was and the Copa Libertadores.

When you start short tournaments, Winter 96, took one of the worst seasons of his history, was hired Ricardo La Volpe, to lead the club, but after a humiliating 5-0 in the stadium before the Guadalajara Jalisco, was dismissed from office, and given place to Carlos de los Cobos, who could do nothing more than to see the team unable to reach another league again.

In Summer 97, with the arrival of Jorge Solari, become superlíderes, but his dream of the title is finalized by the Morelia who removes them in rooms for the Winter 97, achieved the desired revenge against Chivas shortening its illusion to obtain twice champions in Quarterfinals, semifinals but then fall against the Lion, which was then headed by Carlos Reinoso, who the following year returned to Coapa to lead the Eagles, why would the fans of Leon showed his contempt on the first day for returning to his beloved team in that same year of 1998 made his debut for the Mexican clubs in the Copa Libertadores, and corresponds to the two big clubs in the country that was open. America and Guadalajara compete for the Libertadores Cup opener in Mexico, which ended 1-0 in favor of azulcrema box. In that edition the club is eliminated by River Plate Round. Meanwhile in the local tournament, the reclassification achievement against Toros Neza who removed without problems after a thrilling come in Quarterfinals match against Cruz Azul, aimed at attaining their bicampeonato, but the Eagles showed superiority and eliminated the champion, finally in the faced the Toluca Semifinals after 23 years would get the title, and here the coveted title of Americanist dream was ended by the Devils.

98 Winter became a dark passage, or the return of the then World Cup and previously on loan from Necaxa player Cuauhtemoc Blanco could reach a different league, even lost a court of Guadalajara Classic eliminations who charged past the Eagles lost a league, but White won the scoring title with 16 goals, same as noted in 16 games, Norberto Outes this from the campaign 1982-83.

Summer 99, also became a strange tournament because the Nest came the best player in Chivas, Ramon Ramirez, this because the promoter of Guadalajara had financial problems in late 1998 and were in the forced need to sell the player the hated rival, but this was not only the disaster of the tournament for the Eagles, if not also the Paraguayan contración of five players, these were: Carlos Espinola, his brother Javier Espinola, Juan Angel Paredes, Gustavo Cañete and Richart Baez, which only did the team fall in Quarterfinals against Santos Laguna and only Juan Carlos and Angel were for the next tournament. 99 Winter brought large reinforcements to the team: Adolfo Rios, Fabian Estay, Sergio Berti Witch, etc. In that tournament he won a classic Chivas in which militant and Oswaldo Sanchez with two goals from his former teammate Cuauhtemoc Blanco and followed up to rooms where they repeated the dose of Winter 97, beat Chivas in league with a goal by Cuauhtemoc Blanco to the semifinals, was somewhat harder, the machine would face Cruz Azul, who surprisingly eliminated the Eagles, but closing a millennium and a good decade for the Eagles despite having played only the final and losing.

The 90 for America were dry in terms of titles, but the importance of players like Antonio Carlos Santos, Gonzalo Farfan, Adrian Chavez, Luis Roberto Alves "Zaguinho" and the emergence of players such as basic forces Germain Villa, Raul Rodrigo Lara, Isaac Terrazas, Edson Astivia, Marco Antonio Sanchez Yacuta, Ignacio Hierro, Christian Patino and especially Cuauhtemoc Blanco did so even though they lacked historic pubs.

The New Century
In the Copa Libertadores 2000 with the technical direction of Alfredo Tena and with a great performance by Cuauhtemoc Blanco, who scored 9 goals. The team makes an important participation, including a win of 8-2 to Olimpia of Paraguay, White death threats during the visit to America of Cali and a memorable semifinal series against Boca Juniors, who lost 4-1 in the Bombonera. But in return, all Mexican produce a significant somersault, making the score 3-0 (4-4 overall criminal who commanded the match), but a last-minute goal from Walter Samuel scored the Xeneizes to the final the local tournament was a nightmare for the team failed to qualify as being due to injury, and Adolfo Rios Alberto Becerra blunders in goal.

In Winter 2000, made it to Quarter where the then-champion Toluca eliminated by a tie that put the Devils in the semifinals for his best position in the table.

In 2001 he managed to conquer the only edition of the CONCACAF Giants Cup defeating by a score of 2-0 to DC United, in the same year, the Summer Tournament in Coco Basile, achieve the superliderato thanks to players like Ricardo Rojas, Ivan Zamorano, Frankie Oviedo, Jose Luis Calderon and Fabian Estay, but eventually fall in semifinals to Pachuca.

For Winter 2001, the Eagles were celebrating their 85th anniversary but unfortunately it was a sad celebration, it failed to reach the playoffs despite all the effort you put Manuel Lapuente in its first stage as a coach.

The Eagles were again champions in the tournament in Summer 2002 when they won their first league title in 13 years by defeating the legendary Necaxa, to overcome the 2-0 score to be 3-2. Achieving this title was not easy, because first began with a defeat against then champion Pachuca and even having to lose a derby against Chivas at the Azteca, but the Eagles never let the front and reached the playoffs, in which superlíder defeated La Piedad in Quarterfinals, Semifinals and defeated the same team that 11 years before they snatch the title: The Pumas of UNAM, the first game at the Azteca stay tied without goals, but the game changed drastically in CU history first error that scored Miguel Spain in his own goal, which left the university without living cats, the game became more tense when Victor Muller won the tie for the Pumas, but few minutes after the second time Christian Patino could circumvent Rangel Ezra's cabin and punched while putting the Eagles in the Grand Final. In the first leg of the final, Necaxa took advantage with goals from Victor Ruiz and one of Zague, the leading scorer for the Eagles, who never thought to play a final against his former club. Return the game generated more tension, if Necaxa would get the fourth title or will eventually break down the American 13-year drought without a title, the first half ended goalless, which gave Necaxa the championship, but the 58 minutes achievement Christian Patino enter the ball into the goal by Nicolas Navarro, and only four minutes later Ivan Zamorano put the overall equalizer and continued the meeting until the 90 minutes away, so the referee decree overtime to define the winner, Carlos Gutierrez wanted 105 minutes scoring against Adolfo Rios but this was able to respond immediately and avoided him, just two minutes later Hugo Castillo received a corner kick from Pavel Pardo and head scored the goal with which Eagles finally obtain the title.

Simultaneously, America managed to reach the semifinals of the Copa Libertadores 2002, where they were eliminated by the São Caetano in Brazil.

For the Apertura 2002 Cuauhtemoc Blanco returns to the nest to defend the title azulcrema looking bicampeonato get in this tournament the Eagles made their presentation to the day 2 against Guadalajara, as would be his first game against Pachuca but because of their commitment adjourned to Libertadores date, and in both games managed to defend the title, so managed the overall lead until the Atlas shortened the run of 11 games without defeat, followed by another defeat against Toluca turned champion of the tournament, despite those two losses again gained access to the league in which he saw the faces in front of Santos, a draw of 3 goals in the stadium then Crown ponia the Eagles in semifinals, but the Saints responded Azteca and 40 minutes the first time Jared Borgetti managed to penetrate the cabin Adolfo Rios and Santos put in Semifinals, few minutes after starting the second half, Villa Germain accidentally scored an own goal that life was leaving the Eagles, seven minutes after Cuauhtemoc Blanco scored a penalty but and to no avail to prevent Harriers Semifinals and agree to let the champion on the road.

The Clausura 2003, became another strange tournament for the computer with six losses, five ties and eight wins failed to reach the playoffs.

The Apertura 2003 was presented the return of Leo Beenhakker, thus the team managed some regularity in the league, in its new stage failed to qualify the team to the playoffs, but in the Clausura 2004 could qualify for Quarter-finals, in this same tournament was the farewell to Adolfo Rios was already being replaced by new talent Guillermo Ochoa, in Quarterfinals were at the Toluca, losing both games, standing out the back because a mishap occurred against Sao Caetano led to the veto of the game, in which the Eagles without his people took leave of Adolfo Rios, Leo Beenhakker, and the tournament.

Interestingly in the same year 2003, the team did not qualify for the playoffs the two tournaments, the first time in its history and short tournaments that a league would not, as at least a year in one of the two tournaments able to classify, this was repeated in 2008. In the Copa Libertadores 2004 the club achieved an outstanding performance in the group stage, but tactical errors, indiscipline and the impotence of the dam removal made the team, which again saw the faces with Sao Caetano in Brazil, which won the first leg 2-1. In return, the Azteca broke one of the biggest fights in the history of competition and the club, the result was the veto of the stage 1 game in the league and 3 South American powers, and a year suspension of tournaments from CONMEBOL to Cuauhtemoc Blanco.
