Why do you continue to play this game?

Badge image
So the game gets little to no improvements. Suggestions aren't listened to and now prices are increasing.

The match engine is heavily one sided. To the extent that if you dont play wings you have to adjust to the upto 10 games a day you need to play to succeed or break even financially almost.

Why do you keep playing? When there are dozens and dozens more modern and better games out there?

I continue to play because I'm aware of all of the above and have excepted the reality the game is.

Would I like change and the game to improvwe, absolutely but I know what I know and I keep finding my own ways to keep excited about the game.

Re: Why do you continue to play this game?

Developing own players, exploring with tactics, recently I joined the Uxx leagues which is more fun than seniors - also improving the national team in my case (for a small country) is a motivation in itself.

Besides that, there is a Discord channel where I talk to other users almost every day! It keeps the game more interesting.

I play it because used to it. And the game reminds me the times when I was 17 years old :D 2009 was the best time for MZ! The game is not the way I want it to be I could complain for hours... but we can't help it, no-one is forcing us to play.

Re: Why do you continue to play this game?

I play for one reason. Training players. That is solely that. It's the one decent thing the game got right.

But my time is defitely limited. Managerleague and finalwhistle are much better alternatives

That's the thing the game had right but has now ruined for me. Before HP's & LP's existed there was risk and reward and involved managers actually training players what they thought and gambling a little on the transfer market. Now it's all taken away mostly.

I'm going to stop playing as it's not worth it for me, probably selling all my players later today, the game is ruined by poor management, too many cheaters are allowed to do whatever they want, cheaters that buy too many tokens are inmune to any punishment and you can't compete against that.

On the other hand, training is ruined by the HP/LP , the SIM is from 2010, that means is 12 years old... would you pay over a $100 USD a year to play FIFA 2010 or any sport game that old? Is not the SIM is good or bad, is old and after 12 years everyone knows everything there is to know about it, what can you discover that someone else has not in 12 years? Seriously... we need a different SIM, something to explore and try but crew has no interest so too bad too sad, as long as there is people still willing to pay they don't care and I guess when they stop making money they will just close the doors as they did with powerchallenge, their other football game.

What a sad day. Another dedicated long term, legend and tremendous servant to the community is about to leave. Surely at some point crew decide to do something or like you say. The greatest ever manager left only a few years ago in Hanzo. Now the longest dedicated forum contributor and assistant. Just let the game fold then and save us all time now

Such a sad day to see the number 1 active posted feels this way. I almost feel vindicated in my thoughts over the last 2 years where people have complained at me or certain mods have brandished warnings and refuse to raise certain concerns.

I really should leave this game for my own sanity. Like mentioned above. Much much better games out there.

MZ was my daily routine literally the half of my life.

Re: Why do you continue to play this game?

I played an F1 game like that. 12 years. Got to be the very best for 1 race and in the top league multiple times. But it become too much. Stopped being fun but I'd invested too much.

Best decision I ever made stepping away from that. My time was so restricted like this game is due to the wings in balance and uavimg to set formation and tactics for every game to counter wings when people playing wings don't have to.

That with the 1 million games a day is nothing short of pathetic in truth.

Poor sim, bad engagement, no improvements and massively over priced.

So why stay?

Re: Why do you continue to play this game?

This game has its charms even if my interest has been on/off. It helps that I haven't won anything major yet. Until the game and site stop being profitable to the owners I wouldn't expect any major changes or overhauls, and even then they might just shut it down.

Re: Why do you continue to play this game?

That's the thing. They likely would do just that. Right now they put little to no effect in and it'll have a certain turnover. Now the exact same situation and they have ramped costs up. Its scandalous if you ask me

It's no secret really, the game has been on autopilot for the last 10 years, all you will get is minor cosmetic improvements or new ways for them to get more money out of you, the most recent money grab is the chips to accelerate training, etc. that you can get a nice advantage if you invest a lot of tokens into getting them. Other than that, you'll get some questionable "improvements" that no one asked for like deteriorations at 30 y/old to give one example.

The core of the game is the SIM, at this point I'm not even sure they have control over it or it's locked in a way that it can't be modified as in the past (10 years ago) they were tweaking it and beta testing all the time and you would get updates every 3/4 seasons.

So it coud be that they have no interest in the game as they don't believe it can generate more income, it could be that they don't want to invest money in improving the SIM (but is really THAT costly to get a programmer to work on it?) or they lost access to the source code of the SIM for reasons unknown and they just can't do anything with the SIM. I think this last hypotesis could be the truth but I don't expect anyone to admit it, though what other reason could they have not to do even do minor tweaks on the SIM in the past 10 years? We're still dealing with bugs that should have been fixed ages ago, like the passing around the ball backwards at the start of 2nd half that many times ends up with the opponent scoring to name just one....

Re: Why do you continue to play this game?

Funny thing is they didn't change sim in 10 years. But I think sim wasn't bad in years like 2015-2018, now it's wierd, i can beat one of the best teams in the game, and then draw or lose to completely outsiders who have parody teams..

I feel like crew is doing them simmed games so weak managers keep paying and stay in the game, because if they lose too much they would leave...

Sad to hear that another manager is leaving, it's not going the right way. Every year this game is going down, fair play for us still playing, and respect for those leaving, they simply have enough of this !

Let's take an example from other manager games. There is a monthly update. Top Eleven would be such an example. They update the game all the time. And 100 other online manager games do the same. With MZ, the last update was in 2012. The bugs are constantly being fixed. Which is good, of course. But an all-round renewal is missing. The older players lose their balls. And the salaries remain constant. Actually, they should also go down the older a player gets. If you really compare other manager games, MZ is in the lowest ranks when it comes to updates. I'm also sure the crew looks at other manager games and watches them. And still there are no updates, which is what the managers all wish for...

Around 2006~2009 I had the chance to endlessly play both Power Soccer and FIFA (let's say, FIFA Online 2 for example, which enabled me to go multiplayer). Power Soccer was way more fun. Sometimes simple is better. And it was never about the graphics of course 😃

Of course, there are manager games in every store that cost around 50 euros. Of course, there are also 100 other games on the internet. The choice is quite large. But they all have one thing in common. There are frequent updates.

💯% factual.
I play because I started a habit of checking Training Reports and being between Div 1 and MLS for the last whatever amount of years I played.
It's time to kick the habit. The game is dead and has been dead. Let the old grandpa die.
I will not spend another dime on the game. I am with you Darkline.

Game looks the same when I joined in 2009 but I don't complain, I like it, keep it simple, I wouldn't want this game to look like recent online games. But changes to the how things works is important like, sim, leagues etc.

Crew is smart, keep it with little to none updates, invest in old school managers and make profits. We all know this game is not made for new users, they can't survive here. The target is the old loyal managers + potential come backs of old managers who play the game long and left the game.. I don't like it but it's true

Honestly the game is superboring, 10 years with the same SIM there's just nothing new to discover, no newly revolutionary tactics to find, I mean.... it's been 10 years since the last SIM and everything that can be tried to gain a tactical advantage has been already tried.

Why do I keep playing the game? Out of habit I guess, I already won everything I can win with this SIM, including a Champions Cup, an MLS & official cup using only American players and all the little objectives I set to challenge myself so while I wait for a new SIM, I sold all my players already and I'm going for the last challenge I could find which is winning a cup with the USA NT, without having wo worry about my own team I have more time to dedicate to the NT, we got a 2nd place last season so getting close to that final objective.

To be quite honest, it's very difficult in the long run and you reach your limits. I wonder how managers in the top leagues manage to play in the league for years. Consider that the older ones are retiring. And if the youth development system is destroyed because of the maximums, it's very difficult not to get relegated. I play a second game on top of that, and see the developments with tactics, players, etc. And unfortunately I don't see that here for years. And you also notice so slowly that there are many frustrated managers, but still continue....

Don't know what to say to that, Germany shouldn't be too different than USA based on number of active CM users and I've been winning or challenging for the title for the past 10 years, even the last couple of seasons that I left my team on autopilot due to being bored I managed to win an MLS and didn't have any issues with relegation except obviously that I just got relegated due to selling all my players.... but I got $56M in the bank so I can put a team together if I want to.

It's boring because the game is made to easy. It not always used to be like this. Who remembers times where there was no tours, and you had to plan the 2 weeks league break very VERY carefully otherwise the trouble was there. The worst thing if your 1st round was at away then no finance from league home matches revenue for 3 weeeks. We used to respect every virtual euro in this game. Now the finance is crazy, everyone gets best players/expensive players, best coaches etc, 2 tours per season is already covering your eventual debts etc.

Remember how many bankrupcy topic was there many years ago and we shared the advices etc. It's not manager game any more, game is autopilot now, you can even play automatic friendlies which is mad... Before you had to think about finance, if to buy this striker or not? because he could strain your finances, same with coaches or Training Camps, send him? or not? can I afford this? Now all this problems are gone, some people are happy of cours, because less hassle, but some people got bored.

The biggest revolution so far so youth system was another move to made it more easier to avail finances ! Now we only train high potential ones, it means we don't train weak players, so anything we train it will benefit for us only be it top 11 player or potential sell...

Before we had to train anything, with risk involved which was beautiful, now new season, new youths is boring instead of making a training plan we go to exchange center and CLICK CLIK CLICK.. I lost motivation of training youths because it's boring and same, and predictable.

Therefore sim is going, more and MORE CRAZY. too many good players, so too many similar players when we play matches. I want to remind it's only 1-10 skills game, so we all have the same players.

Game got even more easier with all this events etc. What's the next step?

No matter what will happend I will play this game, because it;s not time consuming, so what's the point of leaving it completely? this is what I don't understand.

That is a pretty good topic, so I will humbly contribute with my 2 cents on it.

I've returned last week, after 7/8 years out. The first impression was what you've perfectly summarized. It is the same game, with small improvements, for a small group of selected and lucky people.

This game was the soccer management online gaming avant-garde when launched 20 years ago. It is vintage. A historical and cultural reference for soccer management game. I understand our need to evolution and changes, but it's essence must be preserved.

Perhaps people may find an innovative and ultimate soccer management in other sites, or apps. Share with me and I will be glad to test it.

Presently, since my debut on this game, in 2003, my life changed a lot, but the sensation to watch in live mode my team for the league stills the same. Which is remarkable.

And yes! Said that many times, one of the aspects of the game that kept me interested despite the 10 y/old buggy SIM is youths training or getting discarded youths from the market for $1 to see if I could turn crap into diamonds and I managed to do exactly that in more than one ocassion.... but that is also gone too with the Tinder training system, really wish crew could see how much this ruined the game and would go back to the previous training system.

lukaszsz182 wrote:

And that too... thanks to the scout + the training chips, all teams are pretty much the same and have top players, there is no diversity as every decent team is pretty much the same.

As an example, last Confederations Cup on our way to the final with USA be beat China twice and Colombia got to the Final destroying Argentina 5-2 and beating Brazil 3-1 and this is no accident, in the past middle/smaller sized Nations had a hard time finding 11 elite quality players while larger Nations had multiple options, so while Argentina/Brazil could easily put a team together that would be a "10", in USA and similar sized nations you would struggle to put a team that would be a "7" and then sometimes you had to adapt your tactics to the players you had as you just didn't have enough quality to play certain tactics.... so what I'm trying to say is that now almost all Nations can put a "10" team.... well, same with teams, maybe some people like it because they can find success when they never could, I guess I should like it as it benefits the NT but honestly I don't.

lukaszsz182 wrote:

Well, if you really want to play you have to pay (unless you're an assistant) and would you invest money in a game you lost interst in only because it's not time consuming? I mean... many people wouldn't.

Btw, if I'm still here and bother to critizice what's wrong with the game is because I still have faith in it, otherwise I wouldn't even bother but I'm hoping crew will read this thread and start fixing things, one good starting point would be reverting the training system to something else less boring and with more risk like it was in the past.

It's funny the power old managers and legacy users have in this game but it's not seen by crew cause they are the kids with the magnified glass and we are the ants.

Imagine for a moment the majority of the fed up users took radical action and decided to not pay to play anymore or just quit, went on strike. The game would fall over and not be profitable. This situation isn't far from a reality with the majority of users fed up

True. Many great managers i know continue to quit. Not all of them have patience like we do..
