Cool to see how much we've really been punching above our weight in U21 level. 11th is pretty impressive and 34 for seniors is about average and fair for us

Have been wondering for a while what a ranking among the national teams on MZ would look like. So I hope you like it and maybe the tables can be a spur to current national team leaders and upcoming and participating nations in general :)

Yeh I think it's awesome. The current ranking system is totally outdated and especially when Uxx leagues came about.

You've done great

very nice!

I am wondering , are you counting as "draws" the matches in final stages that were decided on overtime or penalties?

Also what does those arrows and (!) before rating mean. I just find strange that Brazil Netherlands , Norway and England that did not play in Groups in 2022 have an arrow showing a little up.

All matches are calculated on the final score regardless of whether it went to extra time or not.

(!) shows that the team has not played the recommended 30 matches required for the rating to stabilize and therefore no arrows are shown for those teams.

The arrows indicate whether a team's rating is heading above or below the average rating. Even for teams that did not participate in the last edition, the results for these teams follow from the last time they participated.

2022-09-27 Some minor adjustments to the graphics on the tables, hopefully for the better. The rating arrows are only shown on the teams that participated in the last tournament, if they have played at least the recommended 30 matches.

I noticed only the change in 1st-4th final positions counts, which is cool

Azerbaijan in U21 table is shown with 0 "played" , should have 1 (2014).

Thanks for noting the zero with Azerbaijan - Fixed!

Regarding 1-4 placement, 4th place is the most boring place you can end up in and since 4 teams advance to the semi-finals, it was clear that the top 4 places would be included :)

That is an amazing work!! I have only one question. Are you counting the Qualyfication phase on this rating?
Cause it sounds kind of strange to see brazil at the top when they missed two world cups.
Just asking. I don't really know exactly how ELO rating works.

cheers

Hi and thanks :) no qualifying matches are included, but now that I see the whole list and since the group stage is only 3 matches per team. If you then calculate that many teams only get up to 3 games in each edition of the WC, then it will take 10 editions before they are up to the recommended 30 games for the rating to have stabilized and that is sad.

Regarding Brazil, they played strongly in some editions if I remember correctly. The rating is not based on the number of matches played, but you "gain" or "lose" rating points against the team you face. Even in matches that end in a tie, the team "gains" or "loses" points, depending on whether "your team" has a higher or lower score at the time of the match.

To return to your first question, I have started to look at recalculating everything again, including the qualifying matches so that as many teams as possible will get the number of matches up quickly. The qualifying matches are between 4 and 10 matches (16 groups, around 6 teams/group), depending on whether there are teams that have not had a team and left WO. But it will be a lot of work if I have to count the qualifying matches + the WC matches, I'll have to think about it for a while ;)

2022-09-27 - New pages of MZ Elo Ratings, in addition to a ratings page there is now also a statistics page. So far only for the MZ World Cup, but an update for the U21 World Cup will come as soon as I get the chance.

Hope you don't find it too messy, would like to get some feedback before I continue with the U21 World Cup if you think it's OK

It's not messy at all.

I wish there were some "sort" options like final positions or wins etc.

Also, I am wondering why you didn't use the matches of qualification groups in ELO-ratings calculations , or/and the matches of European / Confederations Cups, or if you plan to do so (maybe with smaller weights etc)

...so just asking for more stats , more numbers , I love numbers :D

I have looked at the qualifiers and the groups, but there are far too many matches to go through, it will take up too much of my time unfortunately. Wish I could make a "program" that downloads and processes the results, but I don't have that skill :(

I understand. I could try send you a list of all matches ,
Probably the best option would be an Excell export , of a database I keep. It would look like this but with 15808 rows.
