The ultimate search for mediocrity

Badge image
Who is the the most average player in the game past or present?

Criteria
Rule 1 - No skills can be 9 or 10!!! (Seriously even one, disqualifies the player and that includes deterioration balls that don't show up anymore)
Rule 2 - They can have as many 8's as you like, but that is as high as you are allowed

My candidate
Bent Mcmahon

Sim needs serious fixing if that's considered a mediocre player.

I think his definition of mediocre is just simply good at nothing but average in a lot of things. The player he showed is right up there for that.

He’s not good at anything and not good enough to play in any competitive team

I dont understand what you mean by this..do you consider this guy good player?

Way to go Rockstar, you've immediately derailed what could have been an epic thread, with everyone showing there extremely average players and trying to find a way to grade level of mediocrity

I dont think you would get an epic thread as most of the players whos skills wont make it above 8 are disregarded! Personally at least I dont!

I looked at mine too and there’s at least a few pesky 9’s in there spoiling the party

I wonder about that player though, he might outperform teorically better players just because he has a high count of balls, I used to have someone that looked sort of similar but with 9 Pi and he played pretty good.

I've got one active and one retired, but I think the retired may not be eligible as he may have deteriorated down in speed and stamina.

What people don't realise, or most people don't realise about retired players like these, is that they are the best value for money coaches you can get.

If you were to try and hire a normal coach, anyone with skills of 8 or above are classified as 4 star coaches.

But, if you have a retired player with lots of 8's but nothing higher, they are classified as a 3 star coach.

Same player, same skill set, but because they are in your retired players list you can hire them for half the price.

For example you pay a coach like this (each level can vary a bit but for the sake of this example let's assume the following fixed prices)
5 star coach - 20k
4 star coach - 10k
3 star coach - 5k
2 star coach - 2.5k
1 star coach - 1.25k

If I was to hire any of the players shown above as a coach and they weren't in my retired players list, I would be paying 4 star coach level money.

But, if they are one of my retired players I will be paying 3 star coach level money.

This is something I don't think many people playing the game know about. Because it's not written down anywhere.

So in the long run you will save money on the training ground by allowing players like this to retire at your club.

Re: The ultimate search for mediocrity

Badge image
For example, to turn Bent McMahon into a coach I would be paying him the following

Name: Bent Mcmahon
Age: 61
Class: 3 Stars
Salary: 4 360 AUD
Weeks: 15

Re: The ultimate search for mediocrity

Badge image
If Tree was to do the same thing with his players he would find the same thing, just with a different currency rate

It’s a good point. I have a few ex players as coaches for the exact reason, found them to be cheaper.

Six of my coaches are ex players for exactly the same reason. 👍🏼

Re: The ultimate search for mediocrity

Badge image
At 4 & 5 star levels of coaches there is no difference in terms of what you will pay a normal coach as opposed to a retired player coach.

Some coaches are at the lower end of their possible projected salary range. I haven't been able to work out exactly why yet, but it's definitely not random luck.

As to hire this bloke off my retired player list would cost me $4062 a week

Perfect!

Though it does raise the question, who is the most average useable senior player in the game. How many balls would they have, how would they be be distributed. For instance Bent McMahon was a regular starter for me.

Both players I posted are/were regular starters for my squad. Granted, I'm in D1 so there's a little more leeway on the quality I can get away with. Typically I prefer a 9 or 10 in speed and stamina for starters.

They were the days before wing dominance. He couldn’t play anywhere now in a decent wing tactic. Not enough AP and not enough tackling to even be a midfielder

Well in Season 55 I won our A-League and National Cup domestic double. I can’t remember if Bent was still playing, as he would have been 36/37 or so at the time. But if not he was a solid and dependable part of the process that led up to achieving it.

In real life we can say he's like Marchisio or something.

Everyone likes 9's & 10's, especially in stamina, but few players are going to be like that, and of those that are most will have at least one to three skills you wish could be better. But you still play them anyway.

And if you think about it, while you are building a senior team you need at least 7-8 players that probably wouldn't start in an ideal world to cover for all the time your best players spend at training camps.

This one is a future mediocrity. Will reach 10 speed, but maxed ball control (HP skill) at 8. Sad.

This is quality, I truely wonder what would happen if you out together a squad of these 70-80+ ball players with 10 experience.

I imagine this is what a good EFL League one team looks like. A bunch of solid all-rounders.
