Defense line in the middle of the pitch?

Badge image
I see some players are playing with defensive line in the middle of the pitch. How do they do that? It can't be alternative formation, because they would need to have some players in the defensive third.

For example, one of the latest.

But I was hoping someone would reveal the secret, lol.

Maybe it's just that the defensive line is positioned the highest defensive row possible, so that they in reality finish playing in the middle of the pitch during the match.

It's not entirely in the middle of the pitch, it's basically on (or very close to) the border between defense and midfield zones.

No, its in the middle at some points, even beyond the center.

I watched the game.

Warriors used an offensive tactic, with the defense posted as far forward as possible. When the team attacks, the line of defenders advances with the team and stands on the center line.

This formation allows to keep the game as much inside the opponent's field as possible and has the additional advantage of creating a very advanced offside line, greatly limiting the opponent's counterattack options.

Exactly, the tactic and player move in play making the defensive line move further forward when in attacking positions.

It relies on keeping the ball in the opponents half and can be exposed by fast strikers/wingers. By playing a defensive line so high it really exposes you on the counter. This team wasn’t good enough to penetrate at all ir shows any weakness in the tactic but it’s definitely not unbeatable or anything.

High risk = high reward
Sometimes :p

I was using it before, but sometimes it can cost you a lot !

Thank you all. I have encountered with this tactic lots of times, and it annoys me so much because my attackers usually won't run to the goal, but they just keep passing the ball to each other left to right in the middle of the pitch until they lose it. I've got two fast attackers with 10 and 9 balls for the speed, but it means nothing.

Maybe I should try this tactic myself to test it in friendlies.

Intelligence, Control and Experience are also required. Speed alone is not enough.

Yeah right, 10 balls for play intelligence and ball control and experience are needed so that a player with 10 balls for speed would know his job is to run to the opponent goal and try to score.
