Let's talk about the flow of Team Rebuilding

Basically I'm trying to get an idea from all the manager's out here on what you would consider the most efficient Team Rebuilding tactic or flow of duties.

The simple format....
1. Sell Players over 23 (or go all the way down to the youth level?)
2. Re-invest money in Coaches
3. Take a bunch of L's for season or two
4. Rake up the cash.
or
4. Reinvest the cash into young talent on TL
5. 2-3 seasons in build decent enough squad under 23/24/25
6. Get back to winning ways?

I'm open to all your ideas and potential tips.

Plenty of different ways and it’s all about how much patience you have.

I’m currently rebuilding now. I sold my entire senior team, bought all U20 players with high potential and am forming a competitive Uxx team with the hope to be a top U23 team in two more seasons.

I’ll carry these players through to senior and upgrade position by position along the way. By the time my team are all 27/28 I should have one of the top teams in my country and also be able to challenge at the top level too.

Like I said there’s plenty of different strategies though. You could sell everyone and run a youth team for seasons and earn decent income and have more money to spend eventually. I consider players as an investment though and if you’re smart enough you can make money through the transfer market, run a competitive Uxx and not be bored along the way though

Yeah Chuck, it all about how much patience you have.

I run a 4 season youth training cycle. Bring full group of 16 year old players through, they use the youth customization feature in the 4th season right behind them to bring another full group of 18 year old player through right. Rinse and repeat.

Once your oldest players hit 22 years old, get loyal players every season and over the course of time you'll get a few that you can use.

Look for value for money on the transfer market. This is an optional step though, you can choose not to buy anyone and still produce a very good team if you can wait 3-4 years.

Once your players start getting to the age of retirement, let them retire at you club.

When I started this current build, I had the idea of going approx 7/8/8 youth wise and taking as many loyal players as possible. My original graduates are now 23. I took all the loyal players thinking it would help me get up the divisions faster, but this hasn't turned out to be the case. I don't think I've gotten the best youths going around, like there is a significant gap in my squads age profile as a result, so looking at alternative strategies myself at the moment. In theory I try use the youth exchange system to pick out the best youths, in practice only 14 of 43 players I currently have I got via youth exchange. That has also made my youth setup rather wonky, so its currently 13/8/2 lol.

I do like the sounds of this strategy, however my main issue with it is that you can't use the youth exchange system as effectively. Like, your first crop graduates, you use the customization to get 23x18 year old players, but some of those will just be straight up bad youths. On the flip side though, you are graduating more players, so you should be better in Uxx competitions.

Very insightful sir. Thank you for this. Can you just explain to me so I am understand a bit better. So you run a complete U16 youth team, once they graduate at 19. You get a fresh squad of 18 YO youths? Therefore next year have a full squad of 20 and 19 year olds?

Yeah. The youth customisation tool allows you to bring through 23 more 18 year old players right behind the now 19 year old players that just graduated. So the next season after that graduates are all 19 or 20 years old, and you begin the youth cycle again with a fresh batch of 23 x 16 year old players.

When you get that group of new 16 year players at the start of each 4 season cycle, spend that whole season using the youth exchange feature mercilessly to maximise the overall level of high potential talent & minimise the impact of as many low potential maxings in key skills as you can.

As has been pointed out, in the season you use the youth customisation feature to bring through the second group of 23 players right behind the first group that has just graduated, you have no control over what you get. But 1-3 of them will have good senior player levels of talent.

Also, because you know you'll be using the youth customisation feature. When the first group of youths are all 17 years olds, any that fail can still be exchanged for 16 year old players. Because as long as you are only adding to the number of players in any particular season using the youth customisation feature, you will keep all the players you've exchanged for that are the same age as those that will come in.

Also, the thing with getting loyal players in each season, is to do so with no expectations they with be useful beyond the U23 comp stage. Over the course of a long time period (20-30 seasons), you will get a few that you can use as senior players. You just have to think long term and play the averages, knowing 95% of them will be terrible & letting yourself be surprised when one is useful. Rather than getting discouraged and never getting them again.

I'll post one more time to breakdown the specifics of each season of the 4 season cycle.

Season 1
23 - 16 Years old players.
Exchange mercilessly and maximise potential.

Season 2
All players turn 17 years old.
Continue to exchange mercilessly and maximise potential.

Season 3
All players turn either 17 or 18 years old.
No exchanges at all (Any 16 year old players you could get will be deleted from your squad when you use the youth customization feature next season - Anyone that maxes out badly stays & go for as many U18 titles as you can).

Season 4
18 year old players turn 19 and graduate (Either fire any that maxed out badly, or keep them all and compete for Uxx comps - Nothing in between).
Use the youth customization feature to increase the number of 18 year old player to 23.
Either exchange mercilessly (As any players that are 16 years old in this season will graduate and be useful), or; Keep them all and go for another season U18 competition glory (again nothing in between either, maximise whatever you are doing).

Can't thank you enough scruttino for taking the time to explain this, great insight and I will be going for this next season! Will get back to you with results in 3-4 seasons :)
