Romário Faria: a biography
Part 1: About Vicissitudes and Glories
Romário Faria (203081662), simply known as Romário, was born as a piece of information common somewhere in a Crew server on the 17th day of the 46th season of Managerzone. So far, there was nothing special about these little bits of data beyond his dream: to become a professional football player.
Still small, he could follow with 3D the matches of the Brazilian Championship of Managerzone; when the Dragões Vermelhos dominated. This team players always served as inspiration for the young man who at the time had only seven seasons of existence, but his true passion was another.
Born in the city of Nova Friburgo, in the interior of Rio de Janeiro, what Romario liked best to do was to watch the Suição United play. Not infrequently the moments throughout his childhood in which he jumped the ratchet, fleeing quickly of the security, to accompany his team of heart in the Arena of the Verly Street.
No longer old enough to go unnoticed by the men of the guard, in Season 58 he was able to accompany his team of heart arriving at the Brazilian Championship, what lit up even more his desire to be also a player. Despite this, the path seemed complicated, at that moment the Suição was formed only by stars already aged: consecrated stars who wore the shirt of the Verly Street team in the main championship in Brazil.
It was in a paradox of life, that luck began to change for the then teenage boy. In season 61, the board of Suição United announced that it would change drastically its project. They had no more money to invest in the professional team, they would let his idols retire, and would start training yoths again in their Training Centers.
At the same time that he was sad, Romario recognized his opportunity. Soon at the beginning of season 62, then 16, he introduced himself to pass through a sieve in the TC’s of Verly Street. For his immense happiness was approved, but at that time still did not stand out among the other players his age.
Despite appearing just another ordinary player, there was no lack of commitment to training. Romário trained daily to improve his kick. In addition, he participated from time to time in separate training sessions in which he trained three attributes at once, an exhaustive routine.
At the beginning of season 64, in which Romario was 18 years old, was already beginning to appear in the Suição Unted team. Nevertheless, the great star was Zé Paulo Amaral, its companion of attack and candidate for future star of the team.
So the season went on. Always with Zé Paulo being featured, receiving all the laurels of victory. Despite giving several passes and scoring goals, Romario did not receive the attention he wanted, hardly knew if he would become a professional player. But who knows what surprises fate can bring?
At the end of the season, the Suição was classified for the U-18 Season 24 Cup Playoffs. Ze Paulo was still the main player, his face was printed on every newspaper. The little boy was just a shadow of hers. Everything indicated that Zé would command a possible United official cup title, would be promoted to professionals as the team's greatest player and Romario would be forgotten as another piece of useless information.
But not by chance, a homonym of the virtual Suição athlete said earlier: "When Romario was born, God pointed his finger and said: this is the guy." Whether it's because God, the Crew, or any other magical entity has pointed a finger or not, something unexpected has happened.
With Suição already qualified for the semifinal of the U-18 season 24 cup, Zé began to feel strange, whenever he ran to reach a ball in depth he felt intense dyspnea, worrying everyone in the concentration of Suição United. With only a week left for the most important game of the Nova Friburgo team's existence, the one who was the main player of the team at the moment sought a doctor and received a sad news. Zé Paulo Amaral had been born with a disease in his lungs, something that would still allow his life, but would not let him evolve more in stamina, stopping to train in 4 in this attribute. Something incompatible with Managerzone's professional football.
Realizing that Zé Paulo's career as a professional player was over, the board of Suição United had no choice. He could not let Zé play in the attack, giving hope to the fans. Another idol had to be created.
And so it was that the ring of power came into the hands of the most unlikely of creatures. With just two days to go, the team manager announced that Romario would be the starter of the Suição attack in the semi-final of the U-18 season.
It was great the surprise of the fan when it discovered that Romário would play in the place of Zé Paulo the semifinal. Surrounded with suspicion, the young man who always waited for his opportunity came on the pitch and did not hesitate: scored one of the goals and gave the pass to the second against the team of Blue Lionese.
With the victory Suição was guaranteed in the final. The most important game of its existence, surrounded by expectation and taboos. The previous season the Verly Street team had reached the final of the same championship, being humiliatingly defeated, 3x0, indoors, by their biggest rival: the Swedish Sundens BK.
The weight was immense on Romario's shoulders, but this was the greatest opportunity of his life so far. Here was what he had always dreamed of as a child. Could not fail; and did not fail.
The final was held against Sapindex of Spain, and Romario ended the game. It is said to this day that the youngster just failed to make it rain in the match. In addition to passing, dribbling and striking plays, scored the two goals that gave the title to Nova Friburgo’s team. After the game he was undoubtedly in the arms of the fans.
It was already with the idolatry formed, in season 65 the young of only 19 years was promoted to the professional team. Where many might have weakened and settled, Romario persisted. Even though he was already in the professional team he participated in the Training Centers every season. He knew well where his goal was now: to reach the Brazilian Under-21 team.
Thus Romário trained, trained and trained for three more long seasons. Being so long in these intense training, he often could not participate in the matches of the Suição United , even so, whenever he entered the crowd went crazy with his young idol. The pressure was already high for the coach to summon him.
Everything seemed right for Romário to shine on the national team; until the beginning of season 67, exactly the one in which there would be the World Cup of players until 21 years. In this season Romário began to experience some of the same symptoms that his friend Zé, now ex-player had presented. The player felt tired, no longer the same disposition to run in the balls as before. Frightened by the story repeating itself, the medical department of the Suição United was promptly fired.
Much was researched on the origin of the problem of the young player, relying pneumologists were promptly consulted, but nothing was found. Until Romário ended up in a psychiatry office, where he was diagnosed with a hysterical disorder due to the trauma of having seen his friend Zé Paulo having to abandon football. A problem moderately severe, but that would not stop him from continuing his professional life. "You can not evolve beyond ... hmm ... let's say, 7 in stamina, it will never be a 10. But a lot of players live like that," said the young doctor to Romario.
For some time, the board tried to hide the problem from the public, but soon everyone noticed that the player did not last more than 70 minutes on the field and was replaced. Something that turned out to be a reason for contesting the player for some more exalted reporters.
That was how the call came. The public was irreducible: Romário should be summoned and be the new star. Criticism was not so sure anymore. Could a player who did not evolve in stamina be the starter of the selection attack?
When left to Brazilian coach Fernando Perossi to decide, he had no doubts. He promptly summoned the young player of Suição United.
Despite all the expectations of the fans, at the beginning Romário was not scaled in the starting lineup. The attack of the selection at the moment was formed by Naldo Alvarenga, Paulo Nunes and Fred Leal. But soon the situation would change.
Romario's first opportunity came in a friendly against Colombia in Maracanã. In the game, he did not score his expected first goal, but made good plays, which yielded another chance, this time against Norway. It was against the Scandinavian team that Romário Faria scored the first with the shirt of the Brazilian national team, played well and assumed the starting post.
In the qualifiers for the World Cup, Romario was already signed among the 11 initials. In the competition began again to be contested by the fans. Some complained that he was making few goals, many said that he was just a player created by marketing with no really valuable attribute.
Criticized by a large portion of the population, the short man led Brazil to the World Cup. With the groups drawn, the first match would be against a historical rival of the Brazilian national team: Uruguay.
Again it was not an easy moment for the Suição’s player. When his name was announced on the stadium speakers before the game there was even a draft of boos. But who said criticism ever mattered to this young man?
Inside the pitch, in a really important match, Romario did not forgive again. He completely destroyed the Uruguayan back, which looked like a team of boys playing against a man. Scored 4 goals in an absolutely impressive match.
After the fight, young man who is, the athlete ended up giving a controversial interview. He demanded the choach the number 11. "It's absurd to have to play at number 63," the player said at the time.
Contrary to the statement, the coach decided that against Romania, Brazil's second opponent in the Cup, would leave the player from outside, exploring the plays by the sides. The result was not the best, in a lot of moments lost on the pitch, the Canarian team only drew with the European team. The fans who had criticized him had already been desperate for Romario's return.
That was how it was decided that he would start again against the greatest rival of the Brazilian national team: Argentina. And exactly, who would say, in a game that would be worth the life of Brazil in the competition. If I lost it could be eliminated. The title dream would be over.
But again Romario did not disappoint. Together with Paulo Nunes and Fred Leal, he made a great start, scored another goal, gave an assist and led the team's attack to victory and classification.
Now, the international press already start to give prominence to the player. On the other side of the world, one of the top scorers in the competition is exalted.
In the last 16 a new challenge: the dreaded France. Tomorrow, the he must get on the field with the certainty that there is still much to do, that may be one of the greatest idols in the history of Managerzone. And who can tell you how far destiny will lead you?
