Top League Player Development

I've made it back to the top league for the second time in hockey. But I'm looking for some feedback on minimum skills other managers use to determine who to bring in, and who to sell off.

In MZ Football/Soccer my main focus is Speed and Stamina at 8+. Then I let the rest of the makings determine the best position for the player.

In MZ Hockey I've seen the key skills as Power, Skating, and Quickness. I've tried to set a similar cutoff at 8 for these three skills, but I had started making exceptions for players maxed at 7, keeping them if they average at least 8 balls in the the top skills. However at 1-3-0 so far this season, getting spanked by the 1&2 teams, I'm thinking the bar needs to be set higher to be successful at the top league (and in tournament play).

Here's a player I'm on the fence with. Maxed at 7 skating, but still in camp for power and quickness. Is 7 skating the point he should be cut at, or does he have hope if power and quickness hit 9+?

7 Skating is fine imo, I would hope for at least 8 in every skill, but for Canadian players, 7 skating is ok. Even some of my foreigners only have 7.

I consider Stamina, Shooting or Checking, and Quickness to be more important than Skating myself. Power of course is supremely #1 by a lot. So 7 does not end a career, but I would like other high skills to offset it.

I use 9 minimum for Power, then go for as high as possible with Stamina, Shooting or Checking, and Quickness. With 6 minimum for Stamina (And only 4th line with 6), and 7 minimum with Quickness (6 is ok with 10 Power), and hope for a 9 minimum with the primary Shooting/Checking (Can go down to 8 though). Hard to stay true with all the minimums on all 20 guys though, I have a player who breaks at least one of all my minimum rules.
