As far as I know, there is no english speaking Zone and there has been none for a very long time, USA had it last issue in 2015, Canada in 2013, UK in June 2016 and Australia in July 2016.

We should do a joint US, UK and CA, the zone.
It would be fun writing about Aussies.

Trev and brock, why not become RAs then ?

Re: What happened to the English Zone??

I thought about it... when I ran it before I had a team of 5 or 6 RAs and to be honest it was like herding cats trying to get articles in on time to edit it together.
If I did it again I'd want to change the format quite a bit.
Also I'm not as active in the community as I once was, I doubt I could convince that many players to write for ir now

I suggested an English speaking zone to get things back up and running in another forum with no replies.
One RA from; England, USA, Canada and Australia to at least start things in the right direction again..
Would create some nice banter and friendly rivalries between the countries too.

I bet if MZ could set up the ZONE in a similar format like the social media posting works, we could have a new issue every league match day

Whins brought it back for an issue in June 2016. Prior to that, I discontinued it in April 2015.
The old site is still up and if anyone wants to continue it in this format I am more than happy to give them access to publish and schedule. It gives you a full environment really just to create and publish.

The time sink and the consistently dropping readership due to the attrition on the game was pretty much the main reasons it died.
I think I was HRA for 3-4 years in its last iteration and we went from fortnightly, to monthly, to 2 per season purely for the amount of effort needed for the quality of article required.
Meanwhile in that time, we went from getting views of around 1500-2000 per Zone, to little more than 200 by the end. Given the fact that today the 1st page of MZ Talk goes back a almost month, and I haven't been active for 13 seasons and my team is still in Div 1, I can't imagine we have grown at all.
I have found a post detailing my thoughts at the time I ended it;

I remember Trevs time as HRA, a real boom time for MZ and the Zone (2009 IIRC), great content and huge readership.
As I say, if anyone wants to revive it, GB me and I will give you the keys. There is also a UKI Zone group set up on Facebook, a private group for reporters which is how I organised everything, and a FB Page called UKI Zone News, which was designed for social media awareness of it, and for publishing one-off items.

Yea i cannot believe how this game has changed tbh. So fewer people playing the game now compared to years ago. I was playing this back in 2003 for years, and the game was booming and populat. Made a comeback in 2011, and slopped away from the games after a year or so. Now im back and hoping to get back into this fully again. There are still a few old users on here aswell which is good to see. You being one of them mosnosmos i remember you from ages ago.

You make everything cost money to be competitive and naturally members show themselves the door.
How do you compete with a game like FIFA for example when I’m roughly paying the same price P/A without any of the experience that game provides (Club membership, World League subscriptions, FL’s to get tour bonuses etc)
I was surprised when I came back around 8 seasons ago but as you’re back for a season or two you will start to put the pieces together how the game has faded away.

The game definitely lost its way late 2008/09.
Had massive boost in users globally around mid-late 2007 and really grew Seasons 20-30. It just didn't capitalise on this and as mobile devices and social media became more and more ubiquitous it just didn't react.
Probably around 6-7 years ago, MZ apparently came very close to bankruptcy which I imagine resulted in the implementation of a lot more of the paid features.
This sadly pretty much destroyed the DNA of the game, where the paying option was always available, but it was there to enhance the experience of playing the game and gave a small advantage, but not something that couldn't be overcome by good management.
This changed, and it became pay-to-win. A non-payer could no longer compete financially with someone who paid due to the advantages offered. This just turns off anyone new joining.
MZ totally missed the boat on social media and was years behind the curve, and as far as I understand doesn't have an app you can sign up into?
It's 2018, who still finds browser games?
The proxy I always used for health was National Cup entrants for England. I believe at one point it peaked around 320. Currently sits at 53.

They need a reboot with new features and a solid phone App in which everything is accessible through that. Also, an active chat room on the App. They have a great game, but let the competitors who are mostly s**t takeover. Adding more features would help, but most people just don't use browsers as often like Mos said. Most people play strategic games like these on phones. I run several decent size websites and 62% of our users are from mobile phones, which was not the case 5 or 10 years ago. If MZ genuinely rebranded and made themselves mobile-friendly and accessible, this game could BOOM!
