When was your epiphany as a coach?

Badge image
We all started at the bottom but some of us end up doing better than the rest.

To the successful managers out there. I would like to know when you finally figured it out in terms of critical skills that make any team marginally or very competitive. Is it when you started paying more attention to raising the team average for speed or stamina or pi or ball control or tackling or a combo of any of the above skills?

I'm still not happy with team performance. But things do improve when Sp/ST/BC and PI are good. Mix that with a nice total ball score and you can go places - at least to Iowa and maybe even New Hampshire. :D

Hahaa. So PI is the last on your list? I mean are those skills in descending order?

To be successful in MZ you should first have:
- high average in speed & stamina (8sp & 7st is not enough!)
- excelent average in tack (minimum 7)
- good players on main skils (tack / shoot&heading / cross).

You either build such a squad with your own players or buy them around. Or a mix - own players (never heard of teams having more than 2 or 3) and then players bought with top main skills or already formed.

But after this, there's the tactics side of the game... ANd then the luck side... And then the random side... Indeed, players are a good start but only a start!

I call that bluff... I once won div2. with players from my own squad with low in speed & stamina.

Nope, my friend! Succes is way higher than D2! Not that you would know anything about that... :)

When I bought my first really good player, saw how much better they were than my other players and realised I needed 10 more really good players to be successful

As a result I changed my train schedule to find great players, not just useful players

True but you lost me at math. So you're doing trigonometry before every game? Lol

Usually train PI later than other three since youth train PI slower than older players. Try to have decent SP/ST/BC before they leave youth ranks. I'll camp most of my youth each season so they typically have some positional skills as well.

But in the grand scheme - PI makes significant contribution to players' quality.
