Normal, offensive or defensive

Forget what the manual says I'm curious to know what your experience has been with playing any of these "mentalities".

Also does anyone dare passive pressing to save up on stamina? Lol.

Normal normal and offensive aggressive when behind. Passive makes players dummer in marking than they already are, defensive has never been my stile so no to both.

That's interesting because I found that like the manual said my defenders don't stray as much and also tackle better in "defensive" mode. Find that it also helps playing against that monstrous squared front four in attack down the middle that seems to be so popular these days.

The sim is not "complex" enough for the "defensive" setting to work like it is supposed(?) to work

But since the sim is a bit of mystery (even to the most experienced managers in here), you should have some test matches with all the possible combinations and judge for yourself

For example whenever I tried to play (from the start) with attacking settings (against the same opponent), I ended up either losing or with a meager advantage, when it comes to SOTs/goals. When I played with normal style settings I ended up with much better results

Consider the settings as some extra modifiers in the sim
imo, trial and error is the best approach in finding out which combination of them suits best your team (or your opponent)

My tactic was on a default of "attacking" for years but Ive noticed recently that I've suffered some heavy losses and I suspect it's down to playing attacking. So I'm currently testing out different variations.

I used to play offensive and I liked it and I prefered watching the games Like that.

But my results are better when I play defensive even though it's awfull when I watch thé game.

I think that all committed, normal and passive have their pros and cons.

Committed
Pros:
Defenders move forward to intercept the pass before ball arrives to striker or offensive player
Cons:
If defender fails to intercept the pass than forward could easily get 1vs1 with keeper

Passive
Pros:
Comes handy with high defensive line - and pushes opponent strikers more to center circle as usually offensive team does not pass to player who is in offside. Could cause some interesting problems to opponent as they start acting little bit crazy cause they can't pass forward that easily so they may start passing around.
Cons:
Defenders have to be placed "correctly" otherwise opponent could just overrun defenders

Also add cards - committed more cards passive less cards
Normal is something between those two in general

But oddly I haven't paid attention to how it affects offensive players!

Do you find that you score more goals when playing offensive compared to normal? Defensive can be a nightmare to play if the opposition has very good forwards since the defenders avoid tackling early until the forwards are near the 18 or inside it giving more shooting opportunity to these forwards. Bus parking is a disaster in mz

imo, this one is very debatable

sure, committed might add up to the "card" RNG, but I believe the final decision is more down to other stats/attributes/cross-checking than the commitment level.

Committed attracts more fouls not cards. According to the manual

More fouls more chances of getting carded!

I've played normal and got red carded twice plus some yellow cards so personally it makes no difference to me so every once in a while I pick committed or random based on mood lol. Just stating what the manual says

I say offensive things to my players, to get them out of their defensive mode, so they can play normal again.
