Red card bug? Or I am too old and Alzhy finally got me?

Question:
In case of a red card for the defender, what happens, WHO takes his place?

My answer:
The lowest placed (on the tactics screen) midfielder takes his place, while the mid is replaced by the lowest placed attacker.

Today's league game case:
The attacker (actually a winger), who was indeed placed lowest in the attacking zone but also had the smallest shirt number (he was 7, the striker is 9), went directly to replace the red-carded defender.

What's the answer, guys? Was this a bug or normality? Am I going crazy and forgetting how this works?

I am open for banter but first of all, please make this clear for me. Thanks!

Shirt number decides this, and it would be good if there was an entry of this in the manual...

Not optimal in my opinion, as you might have 10-15 different tactics. What is a winger in one tactic, might play as a defensive midfielder in another tactic etc.

In case of a red card, the player of less shirt number between the attackers takes his place, midfielder no.

You can program a alternative tactic and substitution for arrange your team.

WHY and WHO is the genius behind this thinking??? It used to be like I knew (mid goes to def, att goes to mid, both lowest placed on the tactic field), when was this changed and WHY??? It's one of the dumbest ever things in MZ!!!

PS: I just now changed shirt numbers in my team to avoid blocking an alt. tactic in case of red card. I have to play without a no. 7 (the winger received 17) and noone knows what that means for an OCD manager like myself, to not have all starting 11 players with numbers from 1 to 11. ;(:S;(

I have heard that it was an ongoing discussion among some managers and Crew when they wanted to make adjustments to the simulator, and red card was being discussed. Maybe on the GPA forum back in the day. My guess is that this idea originates from a regular user/assistant. This was done when I was inactive, so I take no responsibility ;)

I'd say they should just temporary suspend red cards from the game until it can be implemented in a better way, pun intended.

I was greying myself in the times of the creation of this sim but this is utterly RIDICULOUS!!! Before we had a very good rule of step by step substitution and you could actually manage a red card properly. Now I have to take care of the shirt numbers of the players and also have a winger or striker with enough tackling? Again, this is PROPOSTROUS!!!

i will not be as 'critical' with my words as civilu was (for obvious reasons :P), but i'll just say that this red card thing really needs to change/be changed.

and yes, its extremely 'wrong' to replace the sent-off defender with a striker, simply bcoz a striker is in perfect 'contrast' to a defender (vis-a-vis main skills). a midfielder, more often that not, has good skills in both passing/aerial passing AND tackling, which makes him an ideal player to replace the defender.

in fact, i'd take hanzinho's suggestion to the extreme by saying red cards should be permanently banned, bcoz cards given purely on the basis of luck makes no sense. most of us have seen even good PI players get red cards, so what's the point of cards when there's almost no way to 'avoid' them ?

and if they (red cards) shouldn't be completely banned, then atleast make the tactics setup more 'match friendly', such that we can take appropriate steps to make sure red cards don't affect the match too much.

i was just thinking about what if a guy plays a 5-4-1 (counter-wing tactic) and his defender sees red...the lone striker is pulled back, and the team will probably end up never getting to make a real attack up front again...and neither is the 'hole' formed (due to the sending off) in the defense plugged, since getting a striker to defend can hardly be called 'plugging the hole in the defense'.

in fact, by such a move, the SIM is doing much more harm than good to the poor manager's team. i mean, it's kinda infuriating lol...why on earth should the SIM make changes to my formation when i haven't asked for it ? especially when these changes are so nonsensical.

i'd rather play with a hole in my defense (while maintaining the same attack) than have my attack weakened with almost no positive difference to my defense (since as i said, calling an attacker to defend makes almost no sense).

Odp: Red card bug? Or I am too old and Alzhy finally got me?

Is there any problem for you to plan a tactic rule of changing the lowest number forward with a substitute defensive player when red card happens?

And if I only have one substitute, a striker, what then?
