As is customary, here is a joke:

Why is Donald Trump always seen with Melania? Because all his other wives support Hillary.

I made a hefty sum out of the election. If you listen to what the mainstream media is telling you then no wonder Trump winning came as a shock to you.

It's really the crazy stuff he has been saying about certain groups of people, that made be doubt he was serious about his bid for the burned-down-to-the-ground-by-brits-and-canadians White House. I've never though there is somebody crazier than me.

I'm not saying some of his policies are not good.

Trumps victory had been coming. This massive victory for America and the majority working & middle class americans up against the political elites who for so long think they know best, playing politics over the peoples interests whilst also pandering or even grovelling to minority groups like muslims, blacks, feminists and the lgbt. This is political correctness at its peak and at its worst.

This disease has made also made editstain in the western world but fortunately like the poms, americans have also made the right choice and this will eventually catch on into the rest of the western world & a new wave of strong, gritty conservative leaders will emerge and drain the swamp in their own retrospective backyards too

Exactly my point! The entire world watches mainstream news and believes whatever is spewed at them because we have this understanding that the journalists represent truth. Well, corporations own news agencies and they make the policies/orders/agenda of what to report and how to report it. So effectively what you are seeing and listening to is their version of the truth.

I do not think he is a good choice. Americans were given two very bad choices - ever wonder why out of 300+ million those two were selected as the representation of USA? Surely there are better people in USA.

If I could put money on a soon-to-happen global financial crisis I would. But hey, atleast WW3 was postponed. The world has entered a completely new stage. A horrible one at that. But I do hope that you and your loved ones will persevere in the upcoming ordeal.

That's scary as it is. I am approaching his presidency open-minded as Hillary said. Maybe he will do good, and will realize that some of his proposals are bad and won't go for them. I do not believe he is a stupid person, however I am worried to what length he will go to please his base.

Polls where wrong because most people won't openly admit and are secretly embarassed of voting for a racist, xenophobe, misogynist candidate that makes outlandish statements and have absolutely zero experience in politics, not even talking about the conflicts of interest he'll have with his enterprises....

On the other hand, the guys that will openly support Trump and went to their rallies are guys like this people that where interviewed for an "ideology test"...

If you're impatient, you can skip the first minute..... it's really funny and sad at the same time.

Re: Donald J. Trump president

Hilarious!!! The majority of Americans are truly clueless.

The conflict of interest due to his enterprises will be his downfall in accomplishing anything as a President.

I suggest looking at pictures from Trump rallies and Clinton rallies.
I suggets looking into the recent Wikileaks leaked e-mails regarding Clinton, Podesta, and 'spirit cooking' amongst other things.

And then follow that with your own independent research.

Well... you do need to complement that investigation with the pending lawsuits that Trump will have to sit in the next few months, including the rape of a 13 y/old in 1995, sexual harassment of some models, etc., which considering he bragged about sexually molesting woman is really not too surprising, then there's the fraud lawsuit about the trump university and there's another 75 more, lots of fun stuff really..... and yes, he will have to go to court even if he's the President.

Also, you can read Trump's twitter account a bit and try to imagine it's actually a guy that got elected President who's writing those posts..

Oh, don't forget he just appointed Steve Bannon as his Chief White House Strategist, here's some actual headlines from the Bannon's news site, I mean... this is the guy that Trump selected for an official advisor position at the White House

This is Trump's strategist? It just seems like a bad joke.... but I'm sure there's a lot more to come.

we have basically the same "weird electoral system" here too. possibly even weirder because sometimes we'll vote for an MP that we like even if we don't like the head of their party. Now that's messed!

Regardless, you can still win office while getting fewer votes than the opposition.

They are working on changing it, we will see... It's not as wierd as theirs through (this comparison sounds like the ones in kindergarten)

Re: Donald J. Trump president

Our voting system is just as messed up.

Scottish National Party got 56 seats in last years election from 1,454,436 votes.
The Liberal Democrats got 8 seats from 2,415,862 votes
Democratic Unionist Party got 8 seats from 184,260 votes

Now look at this one.

UKIP got 1 seat from 3,881,099 votes.

If you add up the Liberal Democrats and the SNP they got a combined 64 seats for 3,870,298. That's 10,881 votes combined LESS than UKIP. 64 seats to 1.

I think every electoral system has major flaws.

I literally did 2 minutes of research to find this:

SNP (Scottish National Party), yes, only had 1.4 million votes for 56 seats, but they won 56 seats out of the 59 seats they stood in (aka, Scotland). Aka, they had 1.4 million votes for 59 candidates. That equals 24651.5 votes per candidate. The Lib Democrats stood in 631 seats (aka, almost all electorates in the UK) and won 8 seats with 2.45 million votes, which equals 3828.7 votes per candidate.

Relatively, they had only 1/5 of the votes of the SNP. I agree that if the SNP had candidates across the country then it wouldn't be the same ratio, but the SNP is basically for Scotland. The Lib Democrats only go their extra votes because they spread themselves across and extra 570-odd electorates. That tells me that the Lib Democrats don't have a core region or supportership like the SNP.

The DUP (Democratic Unionist Party got 8 seats from 16 candidates for 184k votes, which equals 23032.5 votes. UKIP got 3.88 million votes for 1 seat across 624 candidates (equals 6219.8 votes per candidate).

Compare these figures to:
- Conservative (330 seats/647 candidates) who got 11.3 million votes; 17465 votes per candidate.
- Labour (232 seats/631 candidates) who got 9.34 million votes; 14808.8 votes per candidate.

Its pretty clear to see that if you are a small party and average over 20k votes per candidate you will win more seats than you lose. With the bigger parties that drops slightly to 15-18k. Your "smaller" parties that got big votes overall but low seats are because they weren't getting enough votes per candidate.

Re: Donald J. Trump president

Badge image
I will also add that of the 30.7 million people voted in the 650 available seats, equating to an average of 47218 votes per seat were made. Therefore the DUP's (23k average) and the SNP's (25k) votes (on average) gave them essentially 50% of their seats votes. Considering that England (or the UK) is a first past the post voting system (not requiring 50% +1 of the vote - aka, a majority, but just the person with the most votes off the first round unlike in preferential voting) the fact they got that average of around 50% is incredible and is a testament to the fact that the system works in England, unlike what you say Matt.

You might not agree with the policies of those parties but you can't deny the maths.

I really dont get why people are so in love with Hillary. What has she really done that makes her so great? She took over 120 million dollars from all these lobbyists bankers and corporations that only care about themselves and no one else. I don't think people know how elections work in this country, or all this corrupt western countries. You really think Hillary and her kind really care about equal rights for women, gays or minorities. You have to be absolutely out of your mind to think that. I wish people could really see the truth and take back they're countries and send all these politicians to prison for treason.

Well.... you think dead people and illegals vote, no surprise you support Trump.

Putting aside the right wing populist rhetoric, the guy is a gazillionaire with many enterprises & interests in the USA & around the world and he's appointing more gazillionaires in the same situation for his cabinet, when it comes to putting new laws or implementing new policies, who do you think he'll benefit? The little guy or the Corporations? Do you think he'll pass laws or regulations beneficial for the Country if they go against his own interests? Also, wouldn't he be in a position in which he could have inside knowledge and use it to benefit his companies?

My prediction is that he won't last the 4 years, I see the guy quitting among political scandals and a financial crisis, probably in about 2 years.

But little guys don't bring in money. Little guys don't create power or have influence over other countries. Benefiting corporations and big businesses will have a bigger and better impact on little and big guys on the long run.

There is no place for welfare mentality in a first world western country.

From a citizen's perspective, I can't imagine any reason on why someone would support Hillary.

Because ironically, the little guys are the ones that voted for him but they'll end up being worse off... I mean, if I where a ruthless CEO of multiple companies I'd try to create laws to pay lower corporate taxes, lower salaries, create laws that benefit my businesses and put them over the competition, etc.

Benefiting corporations & big businesses, etc... China is excellent at that, they got cheap labor, subsidized postal services, big Corporations & industry, China as a Country is more powerful and stronger than ever... but not sure how much of that benefits the little guy...

It's a shame that Bernie Sanders wasn't the candidate that represented the Democrats, he could have won this elections by a landslide, I don't particularly like Hillary but considering the alternative.....

And the rhetoric Trump used during the elections is nothing new, is the same kind of populist speech that is common in South America since around the 1920s, depending on the mood of the people and the times it could be left wing rhetoric or right wing rhetoric but while on the surface they're opposites, they're a lot more similar than anyone could think... and even the protectionism economical path that apparently Trump is going to take, is the same one that Latin America has been for a long while already.... personally, I think Latin America would be much better without populism, I guess we'll have to wait and see how a Latin American style government works in the USA.

True that, and he seemed like a great man and run an awesome campaign, but then how much use is a guy that based his campaign on socialist promises, and I hope it's not a mystery to most of us that socialism doesn't work...

I dunno, I don't feel like he was the one either, but I am not sure this election who was closer to being the one... I feel like the scandals about Hillary were overblown, but then again, nothing was going to change with Hillary in office as bestplaya' said, and ppl wanted change, so Trump it is.

Interesting times, I can't wait to see how Brexit and Trump's administration turn out.
