NHL 2016/2017 season

Let's start this topic early and keep it as a season long thread. For those of you who are following the league, like myself who are trying to stay up all nights over in Europe to watch the games, this is the best and most enjoyable league in the world

As such - it's always exciting to follow the trades to begin with. Some questions to begin with

- Who won the trade P.K Subban for Shea Weber? Nashville or Montreal?
- Is this Edmonton's year (at last) ?
- Will Taylor Hall's goal scoring be enough for New Jersey Devils to make the playoffs?
- Will Pittsburgh Penguins repeat?
- Will Patrik Laine do better than Matthews in the first season as rookies?

I am always up for NHL talk, so let's begin guys

I like NHL but I'm not that fan haha.. Too many sports to watch. The euro has finished, now I'm watching Le tour de France, then Olympics Games, and because of that I'm not following the news haha
I'm following the Kings' news though and they're not very exciting lol

In the long run, Nashville won the trade. But right now, montreal won the trade. They go a 20 goal scorer defensemen with the hardest shot, and excellent leadership. They dont want to waste carey price's prime years.

Edmonton will fight for the last wildcard playoff spot. So i suppose thats better than bottom three in the league.

Its just taylor hall and a bunch of others guys. Edmonton had a better team and were not able to overcome. It will help NJ quite a bit, but not enough to make the playoffs.

Penguins will not repeat. No team has repeated in over a decade.

Matthews will do better i believe.

I think Nashville have won already and will also win in the long run - sure I am a bit biased here, but since Nashville are looking for offense, Subban definitely dictates the blue line in PP better than Weber. Not to mention he is younger and more agile, and cheaper in terms of salary. Montreal get a hell of a defenseman though, taking nothing away from Shea Weber (I even renamed a youth player after him.. that's how much I like the guy) but he is a bit on the downhill - hence I think Preds won this trade already

I agree with you about the Oilers - they've been fun to watch for a long time. I think they can be in the run for a playoff spot at last, with some reliable goalies

NJ need scoring, and Hall is just that - he will give them an extra 4-6 wins himself, but the question is if they improve their record with 4-6 wins, if that will be enough for a playoff spot. Probably will require more than that - but it's a good start

Penguins to repeat? Maybe..Sullivan have done wonders with the club and we saw that even though Fleury was out injured, that Murray can win games on his own. I am afraid they'll be a deep contender again - preferably versus my Preds in a final :)

Being European I have seen Laine play the most - Winnipeg are gonna love him. Speaking of Winnipeg, they'll make it to the playoffs as well I think

I wish I had the accurate answer to that, and I will tyr to be.

My honest guess is: Dallas Stars - Pittsburgh Penguins

My wish is: Nashville Predators - Pittsburgh Penguins

Remains to see! :)

I have to say that NHL 2016/2017 season will be very exciting for me, because i'm from Finland and there will be many new finnish rookies next season in NHL. Patrik Laine was 3rd finnish player in history who was selected 2nd overall in the draft. He's shot is amazing and i believe he will be one of the best goal scorer in NHL in the future. Puljujarvi was 4th overall and he's skating ability and vision is top class. Juolevi was 5th overall and Canucks will have top defender in the future. Then my answers to your questions, i think Subban is as good as Weber so neither Predators or Canadiens won. Taylor Hall was big loss for Oilers because now Hall will score a lot of goals for Devils but let's see what Lucic can do for Oilers. Matthews will score more points than Laine but Laine scores more goals than Matthews. I think Penguins will be in playoffs but they will go to summer vacation in 1st or 2nd round.

kotilo Im not sure if your guesses are fulfilled, but I think Penguins will be to come more this season and as far as the finnish players are becoming so better
