Stadium Optimisation

Hi,

Got a few questions about stadia that I'm been pondering:

1) Are hotels really worth it? Nearly £70,000 for something which might make £2,000 a week doesn't seem like great value to me. The various stadium planners and guides online all suggest having them, but I can't clearly see any sort of financial benefit.

2) Is an 8200 capacity stadium too much for Division 3? Again, the guides suggest not, but I can't seem to get more than 8050-ish punters through the gates. Is there anything else I should be doing, or is it just the fact my stadium is too big?

Hope you can help!

just write your username there (no password! - you don't give that to anyone)

The recommended numbers would be>

Capacity: 8011
Terraces: 6009 (75%)
Sitting: 1842 (23%)
VIP: 160(2%)
The idea is to have 75% terraces, 23% sitting and 2% VIP.

Buildings:
Restaurant: 10
Hotdog Stand: 20
Fast Food: 13
Pub: 10
Souvenir Shop: 10
Hotel: 4 (recommended would pe 3.5, so 3 is also OK)

Also, use MZ Manager or MZ Assistant programmes.

Hotels take a long time to start seeing pure income versus waiting to make back the purchase cost, but in the long run can be worth it. Any hotels above one would only generate income from league matches and if you happen to make deep runs into official cups. That is why hotels are usually recommended to be the last facility you build (except for the first hotel) when working to "complete" your stadium.

Here is an excerpt from the mentaldog MZ site about stadium construction:

Stadium and Expenses
How should I upgrade my stadium?

A few simple rules:

Try to build your stadium so that the proportions are 75% terraces, 23% seats and 2% VIP. This how your spectator demographic will be.

Until you start getting into the top leagues and you rank improves, you wont get much more than attendance of 8,000, so don’t build much bigger than that. Using the above 75/23/2 rule means that you need to have 6,000 Terraces, 1,840 Sitting and 160 VIP. If you are doing well in you league then aim for a stadium of 10,000 and then 12,000.

Build the first of every facility (except clinic) gives you income during friendly games, so try to build one of each. Although it is probably best to avoid building a hotel as they are other places you can spend your money and get better returns.

Hotdog stands and souvenir ship are quite cheap and give you plenty of revenue. You are better of buying 18 hotdog stand and 10 souvenir shops than you are building a bunch of hotels.

[fab] Did you know ? You can build 18 Hot dog stands and 10 souvenir shops for the same price as buying one hotel. With a league crowd of 8,000, those hot dog stands and souvenirs shops alone will give you around £17,000, a hotel will only give you around £1,800 - almost a tenth of the takings. Now the upkeep will be around £1,600 as against around £110 but over a two week period you will still be £12,000 better off.

You can find fabkins' own Stadium Planner here. This will help you plan your stadium.

Another site with information on the stadium go to: http://medlem.spray.se/dzblue/calc.php
I've just started out and just want step by step instructions on stadium upgrades

Build in this order:

1) Build stadium to at least 8,000 (75% standing, 23% sitting, 2% VIP)
2) Build of one every facility except hotel
3) Build 20 hotdog stands - (8,000 stadium will accommodate 20.)
4) Build 10 souvenir shops - (again based on 8,000)
5) Build 1 hotel (assuming you are playing friendly games every day)
6) Build 9 pubs
7) Then more Fast foods (12) and Restaurants (9) , lastly 3 hotels.

Those are all based on a crowd of 8,000 which you should get. If you ever build all that you will make almost as much in facilities as you do in ticket sales. 8,000 is a good ballpark figure but really this number is dependent on your league. Check section "Matches and Leagues" to get a more accurate number of what this ought to be.

* don't order everything at the same time! always get several proposals (it doesn't cost anything to click 'Get proposal') before you order anything to be built This bit isn't as applicable now as building occurs concurrently. In the past building a lot of things pushed the completion date for everything out further. Now things get finished while others are still being built.

* check when your next home league game is, and build a suitable number of stuff so that it is finished a few days before that game.
How big should I make my stadium?

Your stadium size is really going to be dependent on your league. Higher the league bigger number of people will be attracted to coming to the games. Check Matches and Leagues to get an indication of the crowds for different leagues.

Remember to configure the stadium in the appropriate proportions otherwise you will not get the right number of people. Use the Stadium Planner to work out what those numbers are..

Here's the link to the mentaldog page where he discusses stadiums. Also has a chart showing how long it takes before building costs are repaid and profit starts being made.

With all the recent changes to the length of time stuff takes to build, is this guide not a bit out of date?

And this is why I asked the questions here.

I have already read 4/5 guides online and seen those websites before, (as mentioned in the top post) but the hotels question is still relevant. With my team as it is, we wont be going anywhere for a while without major investment, so what is the financial gain of hotels? I'd be losing £70k now, for a return of what? Less than £1k a week?

I know you have indicated that you have done a lot of reading but feel many are outdated. However I encourage you to read this link that specifically addresses the worth of building any facility in terms of weeks/seasons to recoup cost.

http://www.mentaldog.com/mz/stadium_and_Expenses.htm

Grant you, there may be some minor changes that render these guides as a little outdated but they are still good guides on the average. The key to the table is regarding your specific concern of hotels. The length of time it takes to recoup the cost for each additional hotel constructed.

In regards to your capacity of 8200, it seems you are exactly where the capacity needs to be. In my opinion, it is always better to be a little above the number spectators you actually get.

1) Long term, probably.

Try not to think of it exclusively in terms of how long it will take to pay-off, it's the mistake I made, think of it as a contribution to the additional salary budget the moment you build it.

Though as said. It should be the last thing you do.

2) I'd build to Division 2, at least capacity wise early on. So to 8700 as you are now. It shouldn't be too long before you get there and it's probably the first time you may genuinely get stuck.

Thanks.

I've taken your advice, built a hotel and some other amenities. An extra contribution to the additional salary budget is something I definitely need!

Joe there may be a couple of reasons why you are not receiving a full 8200 spectators through your gates. They include your position in the tables at the time of the match, who you are playing with regards to their position on the table and lastly is stadium optimization.

I have noticed when I play the top clubs in my league, the spectators level maxes and when I play against the bottom of the table, the spectators prefer to watch from home.

With regards to your hotel building query, it really comes down to optimizing our income. I am not sure it is 100% accurate, however, I rarely met stadium capacity until I built my first hotel, even when I was at the top of the table.

The pinned thread at the top called “Updated Stadium Guide” has everything you need and clearly explains capacity and what you need for every division :)
