A Feature to Improve the Forum's Activity

Well, from experiencing other forums I couldn't help but think of this change that MZ seems to be lacking:

An option to 'Watch' a thread.

For those of you not familiar with how the 'Watch' feature works it's simple, if you like a thread or if you just want to keep an eye on a thread for future messages and events you can add the thread in question to a 'watchlist'.
The way I see this working is that we have a new icon at the top of the screen that can be illuminated (like Game Notifications and Friendly Invites) when a new post has been put in a 'Watched' thread.

Benefits: People don't have to go to the forums and specifically wait for a response for an unknown amount of time, they'll be updated on the thread's on-goings while being on any page of MZ. Thus hopefully making communication in the thread more natural and quicker (it'll certainly counter the issue of someone asking somebody else a specific question and having it responded too a day later, just because the person they asked wasn't in the forums but they may of been on the site all day.)

Drawbacks: This may be one of those things that is said than done as I don't know the amount of coding this will require.

What do you guys think?

Sorry for the double post, should of proof-read that.

The underlying framework is there already there, as can be seen in notifications system.

I think the main arguments against it currently is the potential server impact with all the requests sent to and traffic generated by the notification system and also the potential reverse scenario of notification overload on behalf of the user.

i thought it was going to say "get more users", cos that would work too.

As well as the usual forum notifications that we all want, it would be nice to have threads that have been read in a lighter colour (eg, not bold) so that we can see which ones we're up to date with and read, or which threads we haven't replied to yet. Would make navigating a lot easier when we can't remember what the last post was, or who wrote it. The time zone difference some days is a little confusing.

That's already in place - due to forum inactivity, there were probably no updates since you last checked.
