So the draw has been done. What do you think of your countries chances?

USA isn't going anywhere. Portugal, Ghana and Germany. We may get 1 point against Ghana. may.

Re: World Cup Draw

yea def not the group that the USA wanted.. Argntina looks like might struggle too... lol..

Re: World Cup Draw

Badge image
Belgium has been blessed with Algeria, South-Korea and Russia :)
Although these countries will have to be defeated on the pitch, you never know what's going to happen.
Still, we're better of than a group like Uruguay, Italy, Costa Rica and England. That's surely going to produce some fireworks. Brazil will have a hard time too with Mexico, Croatia and Cameroon. The clash between Germany and Portugal is also one to look forward to. And Germany versus US just for history's sake :P

Re: World Cup Draw

lol for Italia !

Re: World Cup Draw

Brazil and Argentina will go through with ease. USA can go through, but it wont be easy. South American team will probably win it.

Re: World Cup Draw

Im unsure which team to support. I have a Costa Rican Grandmother whom married my Uruguayan Grandfather. Between the 2 of them they gave birth to my mother in Naples,Italy. So as a Scotsman Im not sure who to support. . . .

Suppose I can stick to ABE (Anyone But England)

Definitely grabbed ourselves a very difficult group, but it could have been worse. I expect a second round birth.

Holy damn good game australia.

Re: World Cup Draw

Apologies to any Swiss users, but Group E is a complete joke. Why FIFA are world rankings is beyond me. Groups C, E, F and H are just poor. Looking forward to the Brazil - Holland second round match!

Can I pencil in:

Spain, Argentina, Germany, Italy, England, Portugal, France and Brazil into the last 8. 6 of those 8 nations should have been top seeds.

Eddie.

Re: World Cup Draw

Badge image
Lol Argentina. They should have told us we would start directly in the secound round...

(If we don't go through in that group we should ask for our disaffiliation as a FIFA member)

By the way, it is a shame how there are 'deaths groups' such as Spain & Netherlands (last two World Cup champions and runner-ups respectively!!! incredible) and Italy, England & Uruguay, and on the other hand, terrible groups as Colombia's and Belgium's.

No. France a top seed? Didn't they get last or second to last in the last world cup? Also, England, really? They barely made it out of their easy group last world cup. the last time Portugal face the USA, Portugal was left with egg on their face and though I don't believe they will overlook us again, I don't believe they are that good.

The only teams able to be penciled in are Brazil, Argentina, Germany and Belgium. The rest are completely up for grabs.

Oh Kudos to Ivory Coast for getting a decent group this time around. Two cycles of watching "the best African team" get stuck in the "group of death" was terrible.

Re: World Cup Draw

There's only 3 groups of death, Brazil and Mexico are going through. B,D, and G are a tossup

Why do people think Brazil and Mexico are going through for sure? Yes, Brazil is. Mexico? Hahaha. They are the worst team in the World Cup right now, and people obviously forget that Croatia is a very, very strong side as well. I would be really surprised if Mexico made it through, in fact, I have already put money down on Croatia and Brazil making it out of the group.

Re: World Cup Draw

Right now? yes, come June, Mexico will be ready.

Here's an easy retort. Switzerland were top seeds. They won a group where Iceland came second and drew with Cyprus. The Swiss aren't making it out of their group yet are 7th in the world rankings.

I'd have put Spain, Argentina, Germany, Italy, England, Netherlands, Colombia and Brazil as the 8 top seeds. Maybe even the US.

Croatia couldn't beat Scotland home or away, I think Mexico are going to take second spot and Cameroon 3rd with Croatia bottom of the group.

I expect the Ivory Coast to come through their group, same with Nigeria.

Also, I think the three biggest games in the groups will be all-European matches with Spain - Holland, Germany - Portugal and Italy - England.

Argentina could rest Messi for the group and score 9 points with over 10 goals.

Eddie.

That is all.

So a group with 2/4 "top" teams in it is a "group of death"? lol

Better to have 2 topteams & 2 lesser top teams than 1 topteam & 3 lesser ones imo. Think about it. & don't look at next round yet; 1 unexpected result mixes the whole thing.

Re: World Cup Draw

Badge image
I am looking forward to this world cup. Strong matches stright forword. But teams like Netherlands shouldn't be in second seed. They placed runner up last world cup. Doesnt that count for something.

I am going to root for Portugal. But it will come down to either Brazil or Germany in the final, one has to win it.

The United States doesn't have a chance, the last time we played Ghana in the world cup 2010, we lost 2-1 in extra time. Germany will have us for Lunch, and any mistakes with Portugal and you will have ronaldo celebrating a goal.

All in All, This should be a very exiting world cup.

The english media are pretty sure to win the next world cup! XD

French Platini scandalous team ...

However I think Italy have good opportunities to enter in the best 16 but there are better teams in this WC...

The next WC champion are Brazil or Germany imho!

Re: World Cup Draw

Badge image
It's not even easy for the Netherlands to come second. Don't underestimate Chile, they came third in the South American group, way ahead of Uruguay. And beat England 0-2 at Wembley. Though I think Spain is on the return. Brazil is way better.

Teams on the rise are Germany and Belgium. And I won't underestimate Colombia either, they have a nice draw going for them.

Re: World Cup Draw

Badge image
Australia have no chance, as expected.

Spain v Netherlands and Germany v Portugal are some cracking group matches.

Wouldn't mind watching Suarez and Cavani tear England apart.

I understand Switzerland's problems and I don't believe they nor Columbia nor Uruguay should have been seeded. I would have seeded Ghana above the three and England. 3rd at Africa Cup of Nations and top 8 in the last world cup is surely worthy of a seed.

Also, whilst the three matches you lest are definitely inticing, I think the 'biggest' matches (most important) will be every match in Groups B and G.

Re: World Cup Draw

You cant give a team a top seed for something 4 years ago. Uruguay and Columbia deserved to be seeded. England hasnt shown that they're a top team yet.

But Uruguay's 4th place finish in the World Cup, and winner of Copa America is worse than Ghana's 8th place and 3rd place results? ha.

Re: World Cup Draw

England must have been seeded because of their performance in the 1966 world cup, that's about the last time they did anything worth speaking of :)

True, though a terrible finnish in the qualifying group has to count against them, no?

They won 4 of there last 5, and finished behind 3 very strong teams. The only one they probably should have finished above was Colombia.

Re: World Cup Draw

I think its stretching it when you think Ghana should have been seeded above Colombia and Uruguay.. South American soccer is way above Asia's, Concacaf's, and Africa's soccer.

Actually Ghana was 4th on the last Africa Cup of Nations, they lost to Burkina Faso and then to Mali... Nigeria won the cup.

When they play outside of Africa, they usually struggle... on their last games against non-African Countries they tied to Turkey, lost to Japan, tied to China, lost to Korea and the list goes on... actually, last time they managed to beat a non-African team was in the 2010 World Cup when they won against the USA in overtime.

Of the African Nations, I'd rate Nigeria and Ivory Coast over Ghana.

Re: World Cup Draw

Ghana played very well last world cup. The african teams are rising very quickly. The asian teams need some cathing up. Beside Japan and Korea, there are very avg. and under avg. teams. Aussies are good, but they seem to struggle aginst weak teams.

Japan is a team that has been showing a lot lately, wouldn't be surprised if they move passed group stages!

didn't columbia finnish second in qualifying? Also, wouldn't that put them above the "3 very strong teams" you mentioned?

I think they are that good..., seen qualifiers for both CONMEBOL and CONCACAF and well.......... yea lol . I don't see any teams from any other continent that give the European teams a challenge. Japan is playing really well (beat Belgium in a friendly, but again its just a friendly). Things change in the world cup tho, small teams play their hearts out and come out with some upsets but quality wise South American is up there with Europe and then would come asia and concacaf with africa, then its of course oceania.

I know i have a bias because im south american but theres a reason why only europeans and south american have won the world cup.

Last WC yes, with the missed penalty kick after Luis Suarez played goalie.

Re: World Cup Draw

Badge image
would it be possible for us to swap places with France in group E , as Roy Hodgson is getting some false teeth fitted at the dentists at the time we play Italy , and Rooney is having some hair transplanted at the time we play Uruguay..

Re: World Cup Draw

Badge image
I think we'll finish 3rd in the group stages and go home and avoid embarrassment in quarters when real teams are involved. We'll beat Costa Rica but we'll draw with Italy and get beaten by Uruguay.

Re: World Cup Draw

Badge image
What i think is that in group A the one's going to next round would either be Brazil and Mexico or Brazil and Croatia. Why? well Brazil is playing in their homeland and they have a good team. Croatia, like someone mention couldn't beat Scotland home or away. That doesn't mean they play bad but i would not count them in the next round. Cameroon can do good, that's if they learn how to kick a soccer ball and don't just blast it into the air. See Mexico vs South Africa video from last world cup, and you will see what i mean; that happens to a lot of African teams. Mexico, Mexico can pass being second OR first, because they have beat Brazil before but if anyone has followed up on the Mexicans, their coach will most likely only call 2 Mexicans playing in Europe and make up the whole national team out of 2 Mexicans team which are America and Leon. The Mexican coach thinks he is the coach of Germany that most of the players that he calls are from Bayern Munich and Borrusia Dourtmound. If that Mexican coach does that, Brazil, Croatia, and Cameroon will have a festival while playing the joke Mexican team.
