Family Guy character dies :@

Badge image
WARNED Spoiler alert to those who've not seen the episode last night:

I can't believe they've killed of Brian Griffin one my favorite characters on Family guy apart from Lois, Peter, Bruce the performance artist (the gay guy who says "oh yeah") and Consuela. I think he was one of the best out of the double act of Brian/Stewie friendship I think for all of us it SHOULD have been Meg all a long as she's the dark horse in Family Guy and should have made Family Guy the way it use to be still funny but it was funnier back in the first season.

To be fair, ratings have been way down this season, and something had to be done. There is a conspiracy theory though! It is rumored that 2 of the later episodes in this season (season 12) have Brian's name in their title, meaning that he will return. They have not officially announced the names of 3 of the last 4 episodes, and it is supposed to be in one of those 2 episodes that Brian makes a return...

I'm not saying it will happen, but I wouldn't be surprised. Stewie could always make another time machine, could he not?

...and where would that leave the new character Vinny? ..They've already pulled the "replace Brian with a cameo dog" episode.

10 bucks says Brian is back next episode because american cartoon shows have no continuity :P.

well like kyle said there are two episodes that got Brian's name AND in Grimm Job he's in one of the episode so I think it's a publicity stunt to sell merchandise before Christmas hopefully this is true.

That I have no answer for. Yes, the "New Brian" episode does make it strange to think that they would do an episode just like it later on.

Sad... Can't believe our cartoons are viewed this way! Although 100% correct ...

I'm still not sure whether I like the fact that they killed off Brian.. Meg would have made much more sense, but the fact that Mila Kunis is the voice made that difficult. Even Chris would have been better, but again the same reasoning, it would be even more difficult with Seth Green as the voice of Chris.

isn't Seth Green in that new show called Dads that Seth's producing or something? so why doesn't he just moved Chris on as Brian is Stewie's best friend and he's just a baby he should have a best friend through it all. I know the show's gone down hill but say they say "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

They should've just killed them all off and stopped the show. Have the dog go rabid and kill them all before being shot himself. I imagine instead this has just been a publicity-seeking exercise, to try to drum up some renewed interest, and by some means or other the same character, or an equivalent, will be back very soon. Highly unlikely to revive any show by permanently killing off, and not replacing, one of the most popular characters.

Many shows have gotten rid of main characters and survived fine for a long time. ER ran for 15 years and went through numerous protagonist changes. 24 went through a consistent cast change and survived until Kiefer Sutherland could no longer be trusted to handle the job. Many other examples, but I do agree it was probably a mistake to kill off Brian. Another argument is The Simpsons have not killed off main characters, and that show will be around for a very long time.

Seth probably just enjoys being a part of Family Guy. I do not know anything about the other show you mentioned, but Green and Macfarlane are good friends, so I don't see Macfarlane giving him the boot when there were other characters he could lose. I have thought about it a bit more, and Chris was the character that should have gone, although it would not happen with Green playing the voice. Chris adds little to nothing to the show, even compared to Meg. At least Meg is a constant target of jokes and does create a laugh or two now and then. Chris just works at a convenient store and has an evil (or not so evil) monkey in his closet.

I'm sure this is just a publicity stunt, fans will write petitions, etc. and then after 3 or 4 more episodes they'll just write Brian back into the show.... I'm guessing that'll happen in early January, after the Holiday's break.

Unfortunately I agree with you. I'm mad they killed him off, but he must stay off now that they did it, or in my opinion, they lose some credibility anytime they try to do something serious again. Not that they want to be serious, but they should be serious about getting the ratings up.

Couldn't they have just cued people in by calling him 'Poochie'?

Re: Family Guy character dies :@

And any time Poochie's not on screen, people should be asking "Where's Poochie?"
