Bale to Madrid

Badge image
Surely he should be going now £85m sounds a responsible profit don't you think? I think they could use that to get back into the Champions league with that kind cash?.

That's just stupid money.

Bale is not worth that. He's had 1 good season even then he was only in the top 3 best players in the PL, let alone Europe or the world.

Tottenham should take it because it'll never be offered again.

On the other hand, Tottenham will be a mid-table club unable to attract top talent with no CL, history, achievements or hope of a top 4 finish without him.

If Bale is worth 85 million (apparently) then I dare not think how much Messi or Ronaldo are worth.

Couldn't agree more. Too many years of buying average midfielders, the quality ones they do get they always sell!

Imagine that if they could hold onto their best players they could have had a midfield of Bale, Modric, Van der Vaart and Sandro? Maybe in the defensive role.

Luckily spurs think its better to have 5 average midfielders for each position, then a smaller squad of higher quality, with younger maybe slightly less experienced backup, which is why they still can't finish above arsenal.

Give me that midfield with 2 midfielders as squad players any day over the below mediocrity.

Dempsey, Sigurddson, Holtby, Lennon, Huddlestone, Parker, Chadli,

Today I read 120 million Euros. And Spurs have signed Soldado - so look quite likely to replace Bale with 3 quality players.

Apparently Madrid want to sign a less good version of Ronaldo. When they already have the original Ronaldo.

It's good news for us all if you think about it.
If Bale is worth £85m then I (even though I've just hit forty and have a dodgy left leg) have still got to be worth close to a million ;)

If he keeps up the performance level, and stays injury-free, he will enhance Real Madrid, no question.

From Bale's own perspective, he's 24 and hasn't yet won a trophy. I don't see league title success a likelihood for Tottenham anytime soon, let alone Champion's League, so I can understand the motivation to him, beyond money and beyond playing alongside Ronaldo and other big names, which is the chance to realistically compete for the big trophies now.

From Tottenham's point of view, the third party in this, his rise in the last couple of seasons has helped masked what has actually been a squad that, if anything, has gotten generally weaker. Simply without Gareth Bale they would not finish 4th. But if they get money in return for Bale, and invest it well, they can match their achievements with him, perhaps even surpass them. So the question is, and obviously the whole crux of the matter, what price? That's the only issue I think. He seems a good-natured professional who'll conduct himself properly, and he's got a relatively long contract commitment, and Madrid are historically famed for their willingness and ability to pay vast sums, so Tottenham have no reason not to hold him to ransom.

And if the ransom ends up reaching £85m+, they would indeed be mad not to accept. AVB will obviously hate to lose a player of Bale's recent excellence, but surely a part of him is going to be elated that he could invest in four £20m players! Invest in 3 relatively established c£20m players and 2 real gambles on £10m young stars... The options he'd have if they receive that money should surely be causing him to salivate in anticipation, I would've thought.

you have to hand it to spurs, 99% of other clubs would have stuck a bow on him, patted him on the back and sent him on his way when Real came knocked with a sack full of 85 million pound notes, but not spurs. They really do take playing hardball to the next level with todays reports of the fee now being 105 million squids, but ti has the potential to backfire on them also. No doubt the next club Daniel Levy phones up about a player will immediately start doubling everything they say in readiness for when the price of their player comes up and spurs will do what they always do and not bow to the pressure, and this could be their downfall. Having so much cash to spend and everyone knowing it means if they dont bite the bullet and pay an excess on who ever they target, then they might end up with nobody come closing day.
Perhaps this wont be the usual, we want to sell defoe, then dont, then watch him become top scorer once more, off season for them.
Mind you id trust AVB instincts on where to spend as he is certainly proving to be a quality manager after the Chelsea farce.

i guess last seasons points gap really hurt reals ego. 105 is all cash n to top it also another player so that makes this something around 115-130 million. If the deal goes through kudos to spurs management but i have no words for Reals stupidity and if they sell ronaldo then wld be the dumbest move ever for me.
Lol even if messi was for sale wldnt have cost this much.

Abt other teams taking advantage. Surely going by this deal i think spurs are way smarter. Manu during fergi time did buy players for the right price n sometimes even for a bargain. Might pay more but not excessive.

Well, it's finally confirmed. Real have just announced his signature. Not seen the full details yet, but the deal is done. Gareth Bale is now a Real Madrid player.

Re: Bale to Madrid

It's a ridiculous price for a player with little to no experience playing in the biggest competitions in the world. £85 million would have bought Fernando Torres and still had a ton of money to spend on other players.

He'll make Madrid better but Ronaldo isn't going to be pleased that he's not the main attraction and this is a Perez transfer, not Ancelotti. Kudos to Spurs to holding Madrid to ransom and getting £85 million that basically pays for all their summer signings.

Just to put it out there, Madrid would have probably been able to sign Torres and Neymar for the money they spent on Bale. Where is Bale going to play? Who comes out of the team to accommodate him?

I just hate the transfer and the transfer fee. He'll be at Man United or Chelsea in three years for something like 40 million quid.

Rafa Nadal was asked what he thought of it on Sky Sports and said "If he plays well, the fee will not matter."

I wish I was so optimistic.

Eddie.

This is interesting. Has Bale ever played on the right side? I think it's a safe bet Ronaldo stays on the left. That leaves a few options.
1. Bale plays on the right side with Ozil or Isco in the middle.
2. Bale replaces Benzema and plays a false 9 role (or regular 9 could work I guess, but I'm not sure that would utilize all of his skills often enough)
3. Bale plays attacking mid or supporting striker with Di Maria or Ozil on the right side.
4. Surely I'm missing one, but oh well

Should be an extremely dangerous attacking team no matter where he plays. Especially if Isco keeps playing at a high level.

Bale has played off the right, he often switched during a match from the left to the right, and scored some cracking goals from there too (The Sunderland goal at the end of last season was scored from cutting in from the right wing onto his left foot). He spent most of last season playing behind the main striker and floating onto the wings from time to time. He'd probably be best used either in a supporting striker role, near the left so Real have two of the top 3 players in the world on the left of the pitch in an attacking role, switching between each other, or put him on the right so you have top quality on each wing.

The fee I think will pay off, I think his arrival will reduce the amount of goals Ronaldo scores but increase the amount of goals Bale scores. Remember, he scored 21 goals last season in a team that only just missed out on the champions league (that's despite our highest ever points in the premier league and the record for the most points gained without making the top 4), stick him in a team which on the day would run rings around us, I can see him being a huge huge success. Remember, Ronaldo has more goals than games for real, he didn't have that at United, so I can see Bale going in a similar direction if used properly.

The fact that Madrid thought Ozil AND Kaka were surplus to requirements is telling.

Both are creative players, Kaka likes his piercing runs (Though we never got to see that at Madrid) so the attacking 6 for midfield will be something like Illarramendi, Isco, Modric, Bale, Ronaldo and Benzema.

There's still Khedria, Di Maria, and Casemiro that can also slot in. We didn't need Bale, I'd have rather seen the money spent signing a world class striker like Torres (he was the best striker in La Liga at 19) or signing a world class defender or right back.

Eddie.

Re: Bale to Madrid

Torres? Seriously? He had a poor last season at Liverpool, transferred to Chelsea and never recovered despite better quality players. Bale has scored a ton more goals, the only players I can see scoring more goals than Bale or Ronaldo now are Messi and possibly the likes of Falcao, Cavani and possibly Van Persie and they have to be at Madrid. Bale scores some fantastic goals and did them quite frequently last season whilst also scoring like a clinical striker from inside the box.

In the best way for me, I'd love to see Bale flop at Madrid and come back to Spurs on loan in 2 seasons, then sold back to us at a very cut price the end of said season then he picks up his form straight away again. He's a world class player, I'm sad to see him go, but at least I'm Welsh and can support him in the national team and hope he can drag us into qualifying for something!

Fact was, Spurs were unwilling to sell, Bale was 1 year in to a new 4 year contract, so had to be big money for our star asset. If they waited for his contract to run down he'd have been 27, probably having another couple of years of his lightning pace left at best, and another couple of years of his sublime skill before he starts to lose it. They have him on a 6 year deal, secures him until he's 30, meaning when that contract runs down, he'll still have plenty to offer but just not as much as he did and they can decide then whether he's surplus or not. It's good for Bale, good for Madrid and good for Spurs.
