Thoughts? I'm pretty happy.
Not world class enough to displace Suarez, but if he's having a bad day he'll make a great partner or sub.
Still young and he's been doing quite well at Chelsea

Good move by Liverpool, considering the lack of striker options. I rate Sturridge pretty high, think he's got a lot of talent and goalscoring instinct. If I were a Chelsea fan, I honestly think I'd rather have seen Torres go than Sturridge.

Torres is the flat track bully to end all others, and I am a Chelsea fan. He never hits the vital goals.
Danny got 24 goals from 49 starts and about the same number of sub appearances so that is a good rate. I think he will be good for Liverpool. He is at his best playing on the shoulder of the defender and Saurez drops off, so they should work well together.

He could have been useful at Chelsea, but obviously he has decided to drop down to a smaller club in order to get more first team football, which I can fully support.

The sad truth, which I'm supposing he recognized, is he wasn't competing in a proper "meritocracy" system at Chelsea. Same thing as happened with Real Madrid during the prime Galacticos era. On pure footballing merit, form and effectiveness, he deserved to be first choice, or at least given a good chance to prove himself. Whose name continually on the team sheet instead for the one place up front? Yawn, we all know...

If you paid 50mil for someone you'd want them to play too.
Torres is past his prime, Chelsea need another striker, surprised they didn't give him more of a chance.

Demba Ba has just signed..
He is not a team player, he either shot, tried to shoot tried to shoot again, try to take it round the defender once more, and if that all failed... pass.
He is a good player, he will never be 'great' though.

To clarify, I am talking about Sturridge not Ba...

Ba is not a player that will win Chelsea any titles. I find that a really odd transfer

Sturridge and Torres don't exactly fit that mould?
Chelsea miss the physical presence up top, a hard working Ba could be the difference. They have skill in midfield, they need an old fashioned powerhouse up top.
Drogbas success was primarily that he was a different outlet, the fact he could score with any part of his body, or hit a freekick, and had an incredible amount of skill for a 'bully' type striker is a bonus.
Ba was scoring goals for Newcastle, lots of them. Id rather than then 50 million on Falcao who, even if played well, would never live up to that kind of price tag.

Very hard to predict. If you look at the list of forwards/strikers signed by Chelsea in the last say 7-8 years: Shevchenko, Crespo, Kezman, Mutu, Anelka, Torres... They all came with a lot more reputation and mostly with a lot more "pedigree" than Drogba, but who proved the most significant? Quite.
Ba has experience in, and scores goals in, the Premier League, so there's less gamble than bringing someone in from abroad. But... I don't think he's an inspiring signing. I would rather have held on to Sturridge.

Yeah, I think Sturridge would have been better for Chelsea than Ba and it's not like they need the money... though they haven't had much return on investment in recent years (other than the undeserved CL win - like an MZ simming :)
I'm hoping at some point that Mata goes to Barca to replace Xavi or Iniesta when they retire.

demba ba is a bargain at 7mil. and because of the price tag he has almost no pressure. i think he will do well at chelsea. just the sort of striker chelsea were lacking. although i am dissapointed to sturridge go. he has a bright future ahead of him.

Ba had a good debut and he works hard and links the play and shoots a lot. That is what a forward should do, Torres disagrees and often shows his attitude in that way.
Danny never got a proper chance at Chelsea at centre forward despite impressing, so he has a good chance now.

he is a very talented player, he needs a parent club, i hope he has found it in liverpool. it was great to see shelvey celebrate with him when he scored, there will be players like shelvey that he has played for england with, i hope he does well and can become an established player, after being signed by x2 big clubs and being cast out into the wilderness on loan, he deserves better than that..

Whilst bolton has been called a wilderness many a time, it did him the world of good, confidence wise and he came back to Chelsea a much better player.
However, he is still arrogant, he misses hatfuls of chances, and passes as a last resort.
He will score goals for Liverpool, but he will never be in the same league as a proper striker, such as someone like Ba for example...

i have to dissargee...
hes a striker and he has a strikers instincted. so being played out of position didnt help him.all he wanted to do was be the player chelsea were missing. a poacher. a finisher. an actual goal scorer. he was trying to force his way into the squad and prove he could play as a striker... which is what we needed.. the problem was that the manager isnt allowed to drop torres. villas boas dropped torres in the champions league game against napoli. we lost 4-1 in the 1st leg and boas was sacked. di matteo dropped torres in a champions league game....he got sacked.....so aslong as torres is able to play, regardless of form, he has to play. and that is where sturridge was forced to look else where. as much as i like demba ba and im glad we have him at chelsea.....i honestly dnt see him getting the chances he should. but thats just my opinion... he could score 20 goals a season....but if that means torres wont be able to play...ba will be on the bench.
abramovich needs to learn that he knows very little about team selection, who can work with who and how well they work with the tactics choosen... hes not a manager... so he needs to let go and let the manager do his job and bring in the players the manager needs... instead of what abramovich wants.

Forwards are supposded to shoot, Danny is a bit greedy but you have to knock the edges off young players

sturridge is a good player, don't get me wrong, but he doesn't seem to have developed enough into the player he should have been, he seemed to not care when playing out of position, a player who tried to dictate to the manager in many aspects as if played wide would not put in he effort
just as a comparison danny welbeck moved to safc on loan, he didn't have as successful a loan spell at us as sturridge did at Bolton, but when he returned to man united he gave 100% wherever he was played (mainly out wide at first) then worked his way into the team. he isn't first choice at united but he still gives 100% when he plays and has earned England caps as a result.
for me both strikers can be very good, but one has the far better attitude and sometimes that is what you need

He had a good game today, should be good for England if he can find form.

I think Sturridge is a good player, but he surely must have understood before signing that's he's not going to be the number 1 striker, he'll either be on the bench as a back up striker or playing out on the wings. I don't quite see how the move is beneficial to him, maybe he heard that Ba was coming. In my opinion if you had the option of £5m and Ba or Sturridge, it's a no brainer. Ba is a much better player and I think Chelsea have got a steal at £7m.

They used Sturridge in front of Suarez playing more of a 'number 10' role.

Sturridge is proving a good signing so far ....it was always a fairly safe bet tho
