Probably will buy it soon, but my Barca team on fm12 is so damn good:
Lloris
Clichy
Pique
Thiago Silva
Dani Alves
Iniesta
Fabregas
Neymar
Messi
Sanchez
Aguero,
Won every trophy so far, 21...

No offence, but surely you'd have more fun taking a team that isn't as rich in talent and funds as Barcelona (or other "Power" teams) to the top?

Tell me this, friends, as someone who hasn't bothered with any of these FM games for many years: Is it possible to build a successful/dominant team of your own ex-youths and natives, sticking to just say English players (if playing in the English) league, Italian if playing in the Italian, etc?

Or... as I gather from when most people list their teams, is it essential to find and buy current and future stars from around the world?

So could rimpie build Club Brugges into a strong European force using just (or significant majority) Belgian players? Could WK do the same with Welsh players for Cardiff? Could someone make Athletic Bilbao into a dominant force in Spain, while sticking to their traditional "Basque only" transfer policy?

I will never build something with Club Brugge, proud supporter of RSC Anderlecht :) Maybe with another little team like Gent of Lokeren.
Still playing 2012, can't quit..

On mine I started as Sunderland AFC. went very defensive playing 4-1-4-1 (4def 1cdm 4mid 1attk in the first year as I knew itd be tough. however due to playing on the counter I seemed to catch a lot of teams out, fluked 4th place and got to fa cup final (lost vs man utd)

second year I finished 8th (slightly more adventurous football, two up top as I got llorente on a free and he had to play and couldn't drop fletcher who scored for fun) I was knocked out cl by barca in last 16 (great achievement in first year imo

third year I won the prem, but nothing else (still incredible in three seasons with safc) and by this time I was assembling a quality squad, a lot of buying when not needed on tl, and selling when hit form for treble price.....

fourth year I got the capital one cup, prem and champs lge treble. also community shield

fifth year I got 3rd prem, won super cup, world club champs, fa cup and champs lge

sixth year I won prem, charity shield, lost super cup final, won world champs, capital one cup and prem, knocked out cl by Bayern in 1st knockout round

im now in my seventh year. squad is

Ter stegen,

Kyle walker, Kurt Zouma , Regen player, florian hartherz

Regen LM (wotrth 37.5m valuation, hes like a ukranian bale) m'villa, witsel, wilshere, thoimas muller, theo Walcott, erik lamella, Erick torres, schweinsteiger (old and awful now like)

pato and damiao and a few regens upfront

overall a completely different team and stuff only we at SAFC could dream of haha

I've built a team with Athletic Club every fm as it's the most enjoyable game for me to build a team of Basque players and have to produce the majority of your team. Thats a extreme attempt at a HG team as you can't even sign Spanish players unless their Basque.

Re: Football Manager 2013

ive tried that but got sick as it is sheer pot luck, if you get awful youths, no matter how good you are, you wont win

Re: Football Manager 2013

you can poach em from other Basque sides and you can also sign Spanish youngsters b4 they turn 17 is the ultimate challenge in terms of making a team of your youth etc i love it

That is an extremely fun thing to do. It makes the game far more interesting. That is why I don't understand people who pick Barça, and other dominant teams in their leagues.

I made a great career using Athletic Bilbao (as you said, you can only sign Basque players). However, I could never won La Liga (2nd place was my best mark). Also, if you invest your money in the youth installments and try to poke young players from other teams, in a long term you can build a great team out of a lousy one. You should give it a try :)

*where it says poke it should say POACH*

I highly recommend these players: Mattia Destro, Tomas Kalas, Mattia Perin and Mousa Dembélé.

Are there any other footy management games or has FM killed off all the opposition?

I started with "Stalybridge Celtic" which is in Blue Square Bet North League ( If premier is 1st, this league is 6th ) and in 4 years I promoted 4 and now I'm in Championship League ( 2nd league ). But I could not signed with good players because we are very poor team. :D Only Africans accepting less values but since there is work permit, I can't transfer them. Seems I'll try not to relegate this season.

Also I managed Congo DC for a while and then I am managing Sweden National Team, with Stalybridge. It is going nice. :)

My shining stars are "Emmanuel Eboue" and "Abou Diaby" :)
