Advice or mentoring

Badge image
Hey guys, I've been playing managerzone for quite a bit. And to be honest, I'm probably the worst at this game. I recently saw a thread where a user asked what he should do next with a YOUTH player. And people said bin him. Where as he would have made my first team. My youths suck, I have no clear and decisive method on tactics. I don't know what to do with youths and I have no direction in general. I've visted the wikipages and mentaldog and all of them and they don't really help me all that much. Would any managers be willing to help me?

Especially in
(a) - Youth system - How do you train your youths?
(b) - Understanding players roles and their best positions

- Please help me, I've been trying this game for ages and I'm not improving at all. I'm not lazy, I'm just terrible. So if you are willing to help me, please be kind enough to give me advice or mentor me? Thank you in advice!

There are some youth ans training stategies in the last 2 UKI Zones which you should take a read from

Re: Advice or mentoring

Thanks Mos, did you interview those managers? Was well written and helpful but I've still got a few questions... Like how would you know if players have the potential to have 10 balls and what can you learn from the training reporrts and the youth training camp?

Re: Advice or mentoring

Badge image
All players have the 'potential' to get to 10 balls in every skill. You can't know who can and will however.

Training reports show you how fast a player is training, players showing 1 bar will gain balls much slower than those gaining 5.

The trick to training is being able to get the right balance between maxing skills and keeping them playable/sellable. You could get a player to 10 Shooting 10 Ball Control only for them to max at 4 Speed and be worthless. So that's a lot of money spent on a player that has come to nothing.

All managers have different opinions on how this is done, to varying levels of success. There is no one way to do it, especially as all managers have different needs at different times.

You need to experiment and develop what works for you.

Appreciate this Mos. Could I post my youth players to you and you could tell me if they are decent/worth while or should I stop my youths and start up again next season?

Probably one of the best ways to train youths. I generally split them all up into groups of 4 in Speed, Stam, BC and then 4-6 in YTC at a time. This worked well for 16 youths as you have 6 in TC and 12 to split between the 3 categories. Not sure how I will manage it with 19 youths but I could go for identifying keepers quickly whether they get the skills in YTC, come with a crap amount of skill balls or start off with a decent amount of balls in keeping.

It is all really about pot luck on getting a player that looks good from the start to then not max early in primaries

When I first came to the game, celticvilla told me not to post here discussing advice on youths but to post it to Q&A.

Well, its about time he asked a question...

POST IT TO Q&A! :D

(I jest of course, but double standards abound)

All things in question should be in Q and A. However, shutup.
Frankie wins again.
-But in all seriousness, I've stopped trolling as far as I can control. And a million appologies for my hypo-atrocitty.

-A lot of people have given me their input, which has been fantastic. Read certain articles and I've come to the conclusion what my "theory" was to training youths wasn't too bad.

I trained my youths TILL THEY MAXED in speed and stamina then abanddoned the game. In the time I abanddoned the game I assume I would've trained them in skills I NEEDED - for example.

--I trained 4 players in speed and 4 in stamina. I had 8 youths. No (good) defenders. I choose the players from the Youth TCs that trained them in defensive attributes. However, I left the game and returned to find players like these http://mzplayer.se/?id=0607193086 - ALL OF WHICH ARE FOR SALE. So I was kinda on the right track. But I've taken all things into consideration and have changed it so that next season I have 19 youths. I have 4 on rotation on key skills and in TC.

---------Onnnn a side note. Would it be possible if you would comment on my youth. Be as constuctive, honest and brutal as possible. - http://mzplayer.se/?id=0607190107 ----------------------

Thanks fellas. Really appreciate all those who GB'd me and those who have commented on this with help.

Looking okay from here celtic (league image below), I'd like at least 10-0 vs my opponents every game, and +102 on GD is rather nice.

Short of having a Club Member service where it does everything for you, I'm not sure exactly what's wrong. I notice you've bought 6 players in the last few weeks - have they had any impact?

Re: Advice or mentoring

Max out speed, stamina while rotating around ball control and their primary skills. If their speed or stamina max out before reaching your "minimum to make starting team" (usually 7 for stamina and 6 for speed), they become 2nd tier players. Focus building around the remaining youth who surpass those two benchmarks while training their primary skills.

Re: Advice or mentoring

And also 6 for ball control.

I end up with a good 4-6 players every youth batch.

Thank you. I guess? The reason I say "I guess" is because I'm playing against inactive teams. Teams that you only have to slightly edit a tactic and have a decent striker to defeat. So I really don't find it a fitting compliment. I don't use my league standings as an indication on how good I am. I use friendlies and friends who have been playing similarly to me. I've never sold a youth player or have had a youth of note, nor did I properly know the methods of aquiring a decent team - and that's what I think I'm terrible at this game. However I think with the help and support of you guys have given me, I think I'm on the right track. - And those players are supurb. Expencive. I believe it was 4,682,461 USD for the six players. One of the six is not from the UAE and two of those six are National Players so overall I'm very happy with the purchases, they're all good defenders or midfielders and most importantly they're locals!

That's good then, what do you do with the remainder of your youths? And do you use 19 youths?

Terrible. Not worth a lick. Best training years are gone on most of them, and none of them are balanced enough in anything to even get picked up as a long shot *if you ask me.

You may still save some of your 17yrolds, if they are young enough, but you need Coaches!

You're in D-1, so you should have plenty of money to pay enough coaches for a good coach in every major skill. You've hampered your whole team having only 3 abysmal coaches, not just your youth.

Re: Advice or mentoring

Also, I am wondering.. are you TCing your youths? I understand some people don't YTC but imo you must TC as many youths each season as possible. Obviously a full set of 19, you can't get every one through so you would get as many as possible. My TC list is never free. I'm always aware when there's 1 or 2 due. I am actually aware of 3 finishing within the next week and 1/2. 4 of my 6 youths are lined up next. 2 are keepers without keeping in YTC skills so don't get TCed unless a speed/stam one comes up and the main ones have had their slots. But TBH I don't TC keepers unless they get that in YTC.
Anyway, wittering on am I

Hey Ap, I had several five star coaches and realised I was wasting 16 grand a week on them when they had 8 balls training someone with 0 balls, so I got rid of them about a month ago and started using C class coaches, because most of my youths haven't exceled past their coaches. I think I lost a year or two of training them. But I think I've got two strikers in that bunch who could get sold. - Do you think I should start from scratch next season?

jaysargey wrote:

Jayyy, yeah I was, I gave them all five weeks last season and five this season and then gave other youths a shot. I was quite appauled when only a few of them gained balls. I think they are well overdue them. - How did you realize those youths were keepers?

one came to the club with 2 balls in keeping already so I thought what the hell and the other guy maxed in 6 speed recently so I threw him in keeping to gain his 2nd ball days later

Strange that your youths didn't gain balls in TC, never heard of that before

Re: Advice or mentoring

If it's comprehensive guidance you are after celtic then the Youth Strategies interview with nomercyurz on the latest Zone is pretty detailed.

Certainly worth a read.

Re: Advice or mentoring

Well, you could train them until they are 23, run out of salary trying to keep them and their coaches around, and in a panic sell them to me for almost nothing, with 7 balls, and let me turn them into 9 ball champions for ~15k market price. I wouldn't mind terribly.

I don't think there is much to speak on, and a new bunch next season isn't a terrible idea. You should see something quality by the end of the season or I'd look to scrap them all.

I still think a solid coach in every skill is well worth it, as you can train your youth AND your vets, across the board. But then, I train things as youth that others train only as adults, like set-plays, PI, and heading.

I train them in the most lucractive -- shooting, tackling, keeping. Sometimes I get lucky with non maxing keepers. The others who train well enough to play as substitutes are kept, others are dropped/sold.

Re: Advice or mentoring

To put on the record, my plan takes usually 2 complete batches of 16 youths (32 total) and another 5 seasons (ages 23-26) to put out a competitive team. Fill your foreigner spots with solid, experienced players to fill any holes.

Don't be afraid to keep putting players on TC until after 25yo. It's an extremely long process, but it brought me a few cup wins, regional and top league success, and competitive in the Bessie A.

Not to toot my own horn, but I'm happy with the results of having a quality coach in each skill. I'm not raking in any dough, but I've got a couple of very solid players coming out of y-camp, for the first time ever. I'm polishing some vets in 8+ balls, moving values into the 600k ranges, and I'm breaking even or gaining a few thousand a week. Just because nobody else sees the value of broad based skilled players doesn't mean they aren't valuable.

Just watched a game where a club 23yr old, valued 560,834 USD, repeatedly stole the ball from a 27yr old defender, valued 710,143 USD. Won that match, nil-two.

Sell everything and start over. You're doing it wrong.
Order 16-23 youths before Saturday knocks on your door.
Ask questions in here or in questions section, and we'll help you.
You welcome
