Are you asking about the Federations Cup? I'm pretty sure they haven't gone out yet. I'll try to get the exact name he's calling it so you will know.

As for the MZUSA FL series, the title will start with that info.

Okie dokie, I suppose. Getting a taste of how the big boys play in div 1. Lost first game 2-1 to New England Minas.

Big victory in my first game back down in Div 3. Relegation sell off is going well, but taking some big losses from what I paid for the players - so far down 200K and unless there's a bidding war might lose 500K on another tonight. At least it helps keep bankruptcy at bay until mid-season. Getting back to basics and buying a couple of promising youngsters to develop rather than established players this season.

Things are looking good for the next round of the MZUSA FL. A League is almost full, just waiting to see who takes 3rd in the B League for the final invite to A. B is over half full as is C. D continues to be the rough spot with only 6 teams signed up so far. This is a typical problem and if anyone is interested in joining the D League - usually newer or lower division teams please let us know.

Re: MZUSA Federation #7

thanks for the invite to the mzusa league again.

I also was relegated to div 3 again tres_amigos but started on the right foot. both games with a 6 to 0 result. but there is 1 maybe 2 that will be pretty hard. not sure if I should rid of some costly players for this season and hope to get something better if I go back to div 2 next season.

I weighed the value of keeping players against the risk of bankruptcy and determined that I needed to sell off a few players. If your finances are solid and your not worried about potential retirements from older players you could probably keep everyone. If getting rid of a couple high priced players makes more sense and doesn't hurt your chances of promotion, I'd say sell and hope to get good replacements for next season.

Final promotion spot in B League wasn't decided until the final match of the season. Congrats to Real Salt Lake on narrowly edging out SE Firewheel on goal difference.

A League is now full. B and C are only a couple of places away at 15 and 14 places respectively. D League is a little farther behind but still has 11 spots full. We are hoping to start the FL's next week and I will open a new MZUSA Federation thread with the new FL tables when that happens.

Re: MZUSA Federation #7

Yeah, i'm not worried about bankruptcy. Just trying to squeeze as much as possible while saving some ching for next year. The problem is that the players i have today is what made me fell from Div. 2. so if they are not enough for Div2. and putting some youths in my starting squad seems enough for winning Div. 3... one thought would be to sell now and save those salaries... However, another thought would be to think outside of the league but i'm far away from trying to win any official cup so...

I spent a number of seasons in Div 3 working on improving my younger players before I finally made it to Div 2. Selling older, more expensive players could pay off as not only will you get the cash from the sale, but you will also clear the money you would have spent on wages. I've considered selling some of my older players as well this season (beyond those I needed to sell to stay afloat), but many of them started with my team as youths and I've grow attached to them so most likely will hold on to them.

Re: MZUSA Federation #7

Only two spots remain in the MZUSA FL D League. If you're considering participating this season, act now and sign up!

Two spots as well in the C League. And one in the B League. If you've gotten an invite and would like to partake now is the time to accept the invite.

The B, C, and D leagues of the MZUSA FL series are all very close to full (15,14,15) and each league currently has more invites sent than there are spots remaining. If you would like to participate this season, please accept your invites. We are also soliciting other teams to find willing managers.

A and D Leagues are full, B and C both have one slot remaining.

Re: MZUSA Federation #7

Is it just me, or does anyone else have an issue with league opponents Instant Matching you the day of your league match? I think it's unethical and the wrong way to play.

Re: MZUSA Federation #7

Badge image
It's everyones option if they choose to do it. I have done it a few times for FLs but have yet to have done it for league games. My opponents have done it a few times in league games. It really doesn't bother me because instant matches play a lot different than league games, it really doesn't always portray what will happen in league games.

Re: MZUSA Federation #7

Badge image
I had that happen to me today. I got instant matched twice and won 3-0 and 3-1, then lost the league game 4-0 against the same tactic that I beat 3-1. In the instant match I outchanced the opponent 20-4, but was outchanced 15-13 in the league game. I'm not sure how it is possible to have that big of a difference between the games when the same tactics were used.

Re: MZUSA Federation #7

Badge image
i've always liked to use my instant matches to play foreign clubs in an attempt to collect their flag on my ticker, in a way sending my club on a world tour and speading my brand. i've also used them to test tactics against myself

i personally frown on using the instant matches on upcoming opponents for that's not an option any real club has in actuality. my club will win and lose with honor.

Also, if the instant matches always playout so differently as you say @dowopado, what purpose do they really serve if the instant match data isn't applicapble to other matches? i haven't heard that before

Re: MZUSA Federation #7

@mchutio....." that's not an option any real club has in actuality" You puzzle me with this statement. If MZ didn't intend for that to be an option in actuality, then they wouldn't have it there.
I have several incidents where opponents have instant match me before games but it wasn't indicative of the result in the actual match. Such as s08sstrom has experienced in the above post. Generally, I will test tactics against myself then instant match a friend to test the tactic then try the tactic in a friendly. Sometimes I use FLs to test tactics.
Whatever you draw from all this, remember one thing. You can play the game however you want for the sake of your honor but don't expect others to follow suit. They pay for the right to play the game however they see fit with the tools available to them.

Only time I've used IM's against potential opponents was going into the relegation playoffs last year. Played a few matches against the teams who looked to be potential foes just to gauge their strength. Usually I use mine to play against the National Team or against national teams of smaller countries. Sometimes I'll play them against friends when trying to decide which player is better in a certain spot - same tactic but switch out the one player for another. Some months I don't get around to using them, which I guess is a waste.

Re: MZUSA Federation #7

Badge image
@dowopado did Chelsea get to practice or 'instant match' the Bayern Munich squad before the Champions league final? I think not, if that helps explain what ive puzzled you over. I get the most enjoyment from MZ by managing in the most realistic sense allowable, and you're right not to expect other clubs to share my principles when they don't have to. That would be naive.

Re: MZUSA Federation #7

Badge image
I see, I see said the blind man as he tripped over a stick going through the door. I see, I see.
Yet, the tool is still there as a option. Maybe its because MZ is not real life. In reality managers/coaches would be able to make changes and substitutions as the game progresses so they don't need to practice prior to the game.

Re: MZUSA Federation #7

Badge image
You would like a more realistic sim? So would I as would most clubs!
MZ is not perfect, and practicing against your match day opponenet makes MZ even more imperfect and unrealistic!
I prepare by looking at my opponents prior matches: what formations they use and what's been used against them; who plays where and so forth, as any real manager does. There is plenty of film on any opponent you'll ever play!
There's too much information already there on your opponent to warrant such actions with instant matches.

Re: MZUSA Federation #7

Badge image
Ok. My last comment on this topic. We all do the same things, you speak of, in scouting our opponents prior to matches. The only difference is you don't like users using IMs on the same day as the match. I don't care it doesn't bother me at all if the user decides to use that technique it's his perrogative. We will have to deal with it until MZ decides to eliminate the IM, and I don't see that happening anytime soon. Friends with different opinions.
Maybe you can put it as a poll question on the Manager Talk forum. It might get some reviews and Crews attention for future improvements.

Also keep in mind that IM plays his tactic against the tactic from your last league match. If you've altered your tactics at all the match really doesn't help to figure out effective counter strategies.
