The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 43rd minute of the game. One of Canada:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Ireland:s goal. The goalkeeper, Edgar Fair, was totally fooled by Ireland's Scott Callaghan, who 45 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Edgar Fair stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Daniel McLian's shot from short distance in the 55th minute. Ireland's Teddy Sheridan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Odilon Baxter in the 57th minute of play. Edgar Fair showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel McLian in the 89th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Ireland's Scott Callaghan got a free kick in the 93rd minute. Edgar Fair didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Daniel McLian went, in the 95th minute, to the upper right corner, 3-2 was the resulting score. Ireland's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
