In the 2nd minute Baltazar Pacheco shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rene Redak saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jesús Barrera charged in rather forcefully in the 5th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Jesús Barrera the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, El Salvador's Jesús Barrera got a free kick in the 5th minute. After some careless play in the El Salvador defense, Rafael Vida kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Diego Barraza. The El Salvador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Diego Barraza should have stopped the shot. A sloppy throw-in by Dobriša Poslek in the 10th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by El Salvador's Baltazar Pacheco. An unexpectedly hard shot by Efren Díaz in the 11th minute of play forced Croatia's goalkeeper Rene Redak to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Rene Redak took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Efren Díaz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When El Salvador's Andrés Hinguanzo in the 13th minute got a chance for a shot 13th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. In the 28th minute of the match Bruno Mehić sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Diego Barraza skillfully saved the ball. Rafael Vida sent away a hard shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Rene Redak took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Andrés Hinguanzo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Baltazar Pacheco came up free with the goalie in the 39th minute, the El Salvador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Baltazar Pacheco couldn't finish the play. Croatia's Rene Redak played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Andrés Hinguanzo in the 40th minute of play. 43 minutes into the game, one of Croatia:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Efren Díaz kicked well hit freekick during the 47th minute of the match. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Silvije Debrecin made a kick off. In the 53rd minute Baltazar Pacheco shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rene Redak saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Diego Barraza showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rafael Vida in the 55th minute of the match. A well-hit corner resulted in Edgardo Sandoval heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. Croatia made a substitution. After 93 played minutes, El Salvador's Victor Villarreal shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Rene Redak came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in El Salvador reached it. Baltazar Pacheco charged in rather forcefully in the 94th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Baltazar Pacheco the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Mateo Letica fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 95th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Diego Barraza having to interfere. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Croatia fully deserved thier win.
