Russia's supporters crossed their fingers, but Potap Baranov was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 45thth minute of the game Potap Baranov who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but China's 许康松 was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Elisey Apollonov scored 0-1 in the 47th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of 许康松, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

In the 56th minute Russia were awarded a corner. Gennadiy Kryuchkov went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner led Russia's Gennadiy Kryuchkov to fire away a dangerous shot which 许康松 despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball.
